Stroller Runners Unite!

Hi! I'm Kathy and I just finished week 2 of C25K. I did the NHS podcasts a couple years ago to get in shape and was running around 15K a week before I got pregnant again. Now I'm starting all over but now with 2 kiddos. I'm running with the Schwinn Tourismo double stroller with a 35lb 3 year old and a 18lb 10 month old and wow, that's a lot of weight! I ran with a single stroller the last time and it wasn't that big of a deal. I've done one run so far in the gym by myself because it was too cold to take the kids out but it's good for them to get the fresh air and exposure to mommy's exercising.

Anyone else taking their kids along on their runs? Aren't we getting a killer workout? ;-)

I have a Mountain Buggy double jog stroller (Which I ADORE - I got it used). One of my proudest moments was finishing W9D3 pushing a 34# Three-year-old and a 25# 15-month-old :)

There is an old railroad that got converted into a multiuse trail around here, so it's really flat. That's what I use when I've got the kids. I'm not sure that I could do it in my hilly neighborhood.

Unfortunately, this is setting the expectation that Mommy will "go fast" when pushing the stroller: in the grocery, at the mall, etc. ;)
  • Oh yeah, I get a lot of "go fast!" from my 3 year old. It's nice when they both fall asleep though. The baby does it pretty much every run. I figure if I train this way it should be really easy when I do the color run in May without them.
I wish MFP had an entry for running with a stroller though. I have to be burning more calories than it gives me credit for!

If we got credit for the calories it feels like we burn caring for our kids, we wouldn't be on this site ;)

But, yeah, naps are the best. The times I've been out with them, they've fallen asleep and woken up refreshed - not toddler cranky like they do at home.

I am going to start again this coming week and the only way I can do this program is if I take my 2 year old with me. It definitely makes it more difficult.
