Falling below BMR after exercise

Hi SS and S,

I just switched to TDEE-20%. (I plan to lose another 20lbs or so.)
My BMR is 1460. TDEE (at Moderate) - 20% is approx 1800.
When I do cardio I burn ~550. Interval training is ~350. (I wear a HRM.)

My question is: My cardio will use enough calories to leave me below BMR for the day. Is that ok?

Thank you.

    Yes.

Agreed - with the TDEE less 20% method, you should average out to at least your BMR when looked at for the week..

Follow up: If I'm falling below BMR regularly and it doesn't average out over the week, would you suggest going up to the next activity level or see how it goes for a few weeks?

I would give it a few weeks and see how your results are. The BMR calculator is an estimate. If you are losing as predicted but end up below your estimated BMR, one or more of the following could be happening:

    - you are overestimating your exercise burn - and in fact you are not going below your BMR
    - you are underestimating your caloric intake - and as such not going below your BMR
    - your BMR is lower than predicted - and again, you will therefore not be going below your BMR,

If you are losing quicker than expected, then you may be. Give it 4 weeks - if you are losing quicker than predicted, up your calories appropriately and if you are losing slower, tweak downwards.
