Shakeology

Has anyone done Chalean Extreme that did NOT use Shakeology and has still been successful?

I did not use shakeology and I was successful. I didn't lose much in terms of fat, but I'm at a point where I am trying to build muscle and replace fat with lean body mass. I just made sure to eat some protein and carbs to fuel my workout then had a protein shake after working out.

Thank you so much for replying. This gives me hope. I can't afford the Shakeology stuff...and I was thinking that just eating right will be fine in order to see results with her Extreme program. Thanks again <3:happy:

I'm not even certain what the Shakeology product is supposed to do. I assumed it was a gimmick to make more money.

I don't use Shakeology and I've had success with CLX. I'm on my 2nd round now. From what I know about Shakeology, it's supposed to be a meal replacement not a protein shake. I'd much rather EAT my food than drink it. LOL
  • Not all coaches try to "scam you". I have had great success with my own beachbody coach, she's been more than supportive and took me on AFTER I purchased the program. Just saying, people promoting beachbody programs and products are no different than those promoting supplement xyz or jillian michael's 300th dvd or whatever. People promote things because they are passionate about them, or because the believe in the program/product. Use it if you like, don't if you dont. :)

I lost 30 lbs with CLX w/o shakeology. I build a lot of great muscle and learned a lot about weight training. I currently use it and like it but i'm not trying to sell anyone on it.

Thanks!! It gives me hope to hear from people who have had success without the meal replacement shakes. I am just not interested in doing that. I want something sustainable...and relying on meal replacement shakes just doesn't seem sustainable to me personally.

I suspect Shakeology is a great project, but I find it to be too expensive. Maybe if I had a $4/day latte habit that could be easily swapped for Shakeology instead, I would do that. And maybe if I wasn't a breakfast eater then a meal replacement shake would make more sense.

But my husband did almost two full rounds of P90X along with running and got great results without Shakeology. He does use a shake but I don't know what brand -- something he got at Target or Wal-Mart. I'm also drinking a protein shake after most of my workouts that I got from GNC. I may not end up being a poster child for the Beachbody programs, but I can definitely feel myself getting some results.

I make a smoothie every morning for breakfast (berries, Greek yogurt, unsweetened almond milk, ground flax seed, cinnamon, and kale)...I guess I could just add some protein powder and it'll be a good substitution (?). I'm sure the Shakeology people will strongly disagree...lol

Mom2M_and_O : are you doing P90X or Extreme?

I'm doing CLX right now. Did 6 weeks of P90X last year and think I'll hybridize it with CLX when this first round is over. Or I may try a Lean for Life month and see how I like that first.

I'm also not doing shakeology. I do use a whey protein powder for shakes after a workout. It's about 90 calories per scoop with water, 140 if I do half water/half milk. I also am not a fan of replacing actual food with a drink... but a protein shake is handy for getting in extra protein. I actually read somewhere recently that a glass of chocolate milk after a lifting workout is super beneficial... protein + low fat + a few carbs. I add a splash of chocolate syrup in with my vanilla protein powder and its awesome.

I'm still new to MFP...is it terrible if I go over on protein? If I add in a protein shake or protein into my morning smoothie, I'll be way over what MFP suggested...is this bad/

I've read that MFP are quite low on protein. I've also read you should have 1 g protein for every pound of LEAN ( not total) body mass.

I suspect us normal folks are not in danger of eating too much protein.

I remember when I took Bradley classes during my first pregnancy we were encouraged to get 75g of protein each day and that sounded like SO much but I did it faithfully. My MFP goal says 133g and I never quite make it. But I figure a day of 100g is pretty darn good.

I don't use Shakeology, but I did buy it for my daughter in college who has a very bad habit of skipping breakfast. At least this way, I know she is getting something and that something is healthy! I'd rather spend $4 for Shakeology than have her develop a Starbucks habit (yep, they have them on campus!).

I also have a protein shake after a lifting workout and buy it from bodybuilding.com - lots of brands (an flavors) to choose from, no more expensive than GNC and it is delivered to my door! You will do fine on a clean, healthy diet.

I did Bradley as well! Our coach kept telling us we would have this big "bradley baby," but nope, mine were 7lbs 4 oz and 7lbs 5 oz. It was so hard to get in the protein back then, not sure why now!

In regards to the MFP protein targets, I have mine set to 40/30/30 p/c/f, so I usually get about 100 g/day, give or take.

Back OT, I don't currently use Shakeology (and I am not going to). If I'm really hungry in between meals or if I'm not going to hit my protein target, sometimes I'll add a protein shake that I throw together myself. It's cheaper and allows me to use whole foods in my fridge.

I definitely didn't have a big Bradley baby. She was born 3 1/2 weeks early and weighed in at 4 lb 14 oz! I let Bradley (my coach and fellow class members anyway) suck every bit of common sense out of me. They had me so wary of hospitals and doctors that I let myself go into labor after a bad stomach virus when looking back I'm certain the doctors would have stopped it -- and for very good reason. I even waited so long to go to the hospital that it's a miracle she wasn't born on the side of the highway. Man, to be a smart person I really was pretty stupid. She was healthy and scrappy in spite of me! I didn't take Bradley during the next pregnancy but I did follow the protein requirement. That one went two weeks longer and came out 7 lb.

Yeah, I am with you 100% on that. They certainly try to make you anti-hospital. I think there are so many good things in what Dr. Bradley originally advocated that have unfortunately been a little lost. I'm glad you and your baby came out healthy. <3
  • I have been successful so far with ChaLEAN and no shakeology. I'm sure it has plenty of goodies in it, but like others here have expressed, it is way too expensive. I am trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle for life, which is why I like beachbody programs - I dont have to pay for a gym membership for the rest of my life to stay fit. Having to buy shakeology defeats the purpose of working out at home in my opinion-- you might as well be paying for a gym membership.

I just make sure I get enough (or close) protein each day - my macros are set for 40% protein, especially my lifting days, with whey protein powder from costco and eating some fish/chicken for lunch and dinner.

    Good luck!! :)

I agree with you 100%. That is my feeling--I want something sustainable, and I don't see myself buying Shakeology for the rest of my life.

I dit CLX and am now doing P90x - 5 weeks left - and have not used Shakeology...It's similar to Herbalife - good stuff in it, but not worth it if you eat well..(although BB coaches will argue that...that's OK....)
I did not lose a bunch of weight with either programs, but my shape changed drastically, so all well...
I do try to eat 40% protein, so have to use a protein shake to reach that, but a regular low carb low fat one does the trick...
