Hi All,
I am new to the group as well. I used to weigh 280 pounds. I had gastric sleeve surgery and have fallen into some bad habits, did the minimal calorie thing (as low as 800 per day), etc. I am presently 202.6 pounds, as I have gained back 35 pounds in the past year. I haven't been as active as I used to be due to severe back problems. Between that, and being depressed about some situations with my family that has since been resolved, I reverted back to some really bad habits.
I have been doing MFP for a couple of months now, but feel completely unsatisfied, low energy, and not seeing much in terms of loss. My fiance is a personal trainer and a nutritionist. He has basically been telling me for two years that I do not eat near enough calories and has been trying to get me to at least eat 1600 a day. Well, based upon the calculator, he was right (gosh, it kills me to admit that, lol). So, I am going to give this a try. The idea of eating 1,645 calories a day terrifies me, and goes against every weight loss surgery rule, but I am going to do it anyway. I must admit, even though I am the administrator of one of the largest weight loss surgery forums on the internet, I have never really subscribed to the 800 calorie a day methodology, to me, that just isn't enough for our bodies to function. I figured I was safer around 1,200, so, as I said, 1,645 scares me.
I did it based on the 15% as recommended by this group. I am not fully understanding the "reset", but I guess that is referring to the next couple of weeks where my metabolism goes through the process of resetting itself, and I will see a great deal of fluctuation in my weight? I will do my best not to get discouraged during this time, and I have the support of my wonderful fiance, and, hopefully, this group as well.

Welcome to the group!
The metabolism reset is a process whereby people will eat at their maintenance (TDEE) for a period of say 8 or 12 weeks. This is aimed at getting the metabolism back working where it should naturally be, which is often required if people have been eating at very low cal for an extended period of time and suppressed their metabolisms.
It is personal choice whether you feel you need to do this but many people on ere have found it helpful in terms of healing a broken relationship with food.0 -
Okay, thanks for clearing that up for me. I don't really feel like I need to do that, I could be wrong, guess I will find it. I am just really motivated and excited to see if this works for me. My fiance is thrilled I am finally "listening" to him.0
