Already looking into the future....

I am wondering if anyone else is thinking about this. I know we all come to this group with the same goal: complete a 5k. But does anyone else look beyond that?

You see...my long term goal is to run marathons. I wanna be a runner. I want to be able to say..."I am bored, I will go run for a few hours."

Anyone else have such a daunting goal? Has anyone currently working beyond C25K? If so when did you start training for that next step? Did you wait until you were comfortable running a 5k in a certain time limit or did you just leap onto the next program (5kto10k, etc...)?

For sure. I ran my first 5K at the beginning of December. Now I am training for my first half marathon on April 7. Not sure how long til I will be in full marathon planning but perhaps end of year or next year.

I'm following the C25K programme and I'm at week 7 (ran 25 mins today). I'm definitely going to carry on running after this programme finishes. I will do the follow up 10K programme. I've already told friends/family I want to take part in a 10K run in October, and I'm serious. My husband just rolled his eyes at me with a look of "yeah right, another hair brain idea. There is a half marathon and a full marathon at the same time but I want to keep it realistic (this year) and aim for the 10K.

My goal for next year is to complete Tough Mudder. I am on week 7 of the C210K program. I have to keep goals otherwise I get bored and have nothing to look forward to.

I started wanting to do a 5K without walking. Now I know that I will be able to complete that goal, so my next short term goals are speeding up, then a 10K. I am hoping to do a half by the end of the year. My doctor got my mind wrapped around that. I hadn't even thought about that as a possibility for myself, though I'm not sure why.

My goal in starting was triathlons. That's still my goal. I'm just not sure yet when I will add the bike.

I have 5 more runs until I complete the program. I am currently signed up for a 5K next month. My goal is to carry on and do the 10K training next and progressively get better from there.

My first 5K will be at the end of April, and I've definitely been thinking about the future and planning the runs I want to do. Luckily, there are so many races here every month that there are tons of choices. My goals for the rest of this year are to complete a second 5K (and beat the time of my first) and to enter my first 10K. I'm hoping to try a half marathon early next year.

My plan is to run at least one race a month this year and do a tough mudder next year.

Well I'm doing C25K on the tredmill right now and then when I complete it I'm going to go back and start again with outside running incorporating hills, then when I finish the second time I'm going to work on my 5k time. Haven't thought past that though :)) I share your enthusiasm for becoming a runner though, I'd love to have the cardio strength to just pick up and go for an hour run when I feel like it.

I want to be a runner. I want to be somebody who goes out for a run in the morning to get ready for the day or when they feel stressed or need some "me" time.

My friends who are runners track "miles run" during a week or a month to keep themselves motivated, so I might do a variation on that...sort of like the Run/Walk to Rivendell thing. Oooh. Maybe I should do a "Run to Kansas City" and get a Kate Spade bag as a prize!

Right now, I'm doing a "FitTrip" challenge at my company gym, so that's going to keep me going for the next 12 weeks. Hopefully, that will get me to a 30 minute 5k time.

My impression of people who do marathons are that they are all a little crazy, so I'm not motivated to do more than a half...but we'll see about that. My two little girls would make training and scheduling something like that pretty challenging.

I have 5 runs left in C25K, and I jump right into 10K training when thats done. After the 10K training I'll be going into half marathon training, hill training, etc. I'm doing a half marathon, up the side of a mountain, in August, and I WILL be ready. I don't expect to run the entire thing, but I will finish it.
