Any bread-like low carb products?

If I could make a "pizza" with some kind of bread, sauce, cheese and pepperoni, this would be a staple for me. Anyone know of something?

You could use low carb tortillas, but it makes such a thin crust... if you are looking for the real 'dough' there are some flax meal and almond flour recipes that are lower in carbs than true pizza crust

I used this one and it was okay, little on the nutty flavor but it worked

  • As contradictory as this sounds, there is actually something called paleo bread.

Personally, I have never tried it, so I can't tell you if it is good, or not. I have chosen to make my diet as primal as possible. Since our paleolithic ancestors may have eaten some grains and seed that they foraged, but did not ever make bread, I have just gotten rid of bread myself. Even if the bread is high fiber, low carb, etc.

However, if you aren't as whacked about this stuff as I am .... I bet paleo bread is a good option. Also, if you really just want to have a taco or burrito, try the low carb tortillas.

I use the mission carb balance tortillas, I lightly Pam the baking sheet, then place my tortilla. I make pizza sauce from a can of crushed tomatoes and some oregano, just layer with a table spoon onto the tortilla, then add cheese and toppings of choice. Pepperoni and bacon is my old favorite.

I have heard the cauliflower crust is good, but have not tried it yet.

There are some great low carb bloggers online, peaceloveandlowcarb has given me some good recipes I like.

Definitely love to use milled flax seed to make the MIMs though, those are ready so fast and are exactly like a real muffin. It's just two tablespoons of the milled flax seed, a pat of butter, an egg and half a tsp of baking powder. Add any flavor you like, such as lemon extract and poppy seeds, or unsweetened cocoa powder and some Splenda.

    Good luck!
  • Argh, totally missed that it was bread-like low carb products for making pizza dough. That said, I think you could do that with the ingredients used for paleo bread, but do it as a pizza dough. Here's the ingredients they use

Almond Flour, Egg Whites, Psyllium, Organic Apple Cider Vinegar, Baking Soda.

I make pizza using the crust recipes in the Wheat Belly cookbook.

The one that incorporates cheese as part of the crust to give it better structure is particularly good.

I also make the focaccia recipe from the WB cookbook.

Just had a melt-type dish made with a slice of focaccia, three pieces of peameal bacon and a nice big handful of mozzarella.

I am a proud owner of the book The Joy of Gluten Free, Sugar Free baking, and there are a BOATLOAD of low carb bread/pizza dough/everything baked recipes in there. I LOVE it. The foccacia bread I made for my pizza a month ago was FABULOUS. It's definitely worth a purchase.

I love her so much! She has GREAT recipes!
  • Try Joseph's Pita Bread, made with Flax, Oat Bran and Whole Wheat. Only 4 net carbs (8 before subtracting fiber). I just discovered it the other day and it is DELICIOUS! I've only made sandwiches with it so far. This morning I made a ham, egg and cheese sandwich that tasted BETTER than what I always would order at McDonalds. :) I cant wait to try using them for tacos and mini pizzas.

Locally, I've found them at Walmart and Publix.

Alvarado Brothers flaxseed bread. One slice is only 7 carbs, 50 calories.
