Hi Everyone! I'm so glad to see this thread is moving again. I'm getting so excited and nervous about the arrival of our little girl, Zulma. Hubby and I have picked out how we are going to decorate the room, we are doing clover green walls, and grass just above the baseboards with toadstools and butterflies for accents. We are mostly doing green, blue and yellow, but I want to bring in some pink and purple in the other decorations. I figured this way, if we stay in our house for another kid we will have a gender neutral room if we have a boy. I'm sooooooo excited to start decorating. The only thing we have so far is a dresser and a glider but we have a shower on the 19th so I am really looking forward to that :) EEK it's getting so close! Then after that my bestie is throwing me a shower too so hopefully the nursery will be set after that :)

I have an appt with a midwife today for a consult because I'm thinking of switching practices. I'm both nervous and excited. I have a whole list of questions for her and I'm bringing a copy of my birth plan. It's strange because based off of the website the OB that is part of the practice specializes in high risk pregnancies and "minimally invasive surgeries" they use the DaVinci robots. But from talking to the receptionist she says that the practice is very natural birth friendly and they will not scheduel a c-section for a healthy, normal pregnancy so I really like that. I'm really interested to see what the midwife has to say and I hope I can meet the doc too since it all depends who is on call as far as who is delivering the baby.

Skoblinka- I never feel like I'm doing kegals right either, but I know I am because of the whole stopping peeing mid pee so I guess that's a good way to test it. When I'm peeing is the only time I'm confident I'm doing it right

What's the theme of all of your nurseries? Are you painting or just leaving it as is and using other stuff to decorate?

Emily - good luck with your consult. Will it be at the same hospital as your current practice? Among your questions you may want to ask how the on-call schedule works for the midwives. My practice is small enough that they just combine with another office's midwives. Whhhicccch, will be unfortunate because I don't know who they are and won't get a chance to meet them.

My little one is going to be sharing a room with ds, which is a neutral jungle theme. So, no decoration required. (Although, there is still one more picture I have yet to put on the wall to finish the room! lol....delayed, I know). We did set up the toddler bed for ds, but he hasn't transitioned to it yet. We will have to do a little furniture rearranging (little one will be in a bassinet in our room, and I will move the glider/ottoman to our room as well for nursing at night). Hopefully little one will sleep through the night sooner than ds (he didn't until 7 months) because I really don't want to have them share a room and have ds woken up at night.

Good luck today! I hope that the midwife is the type of practitioner that you are looking for!!!(make sure that you know if your hospital is a teaching hospital.... when hospitals have residents, some practitioners defer care to them of laboring patients, and most residents are notorious for hating long labors and encouraging interventions!) I had my home birth class last night (required class for all hb mamas with my midwives). I have most of my supplies, and bought my birthing tub liner last night. My midwives will do a home visit around 35-36 weeks to make sure that everything is ready at my house and bring my birth tub then! I am so excited, and I have so much to do!

Thanks for the input ladies. I will not be switching practices. The midwife seemed hip to everything i wanted but #1 she wasn't very warm/we didn't jive well and #2 she said the OB in her practice is NOT natural birth friendly and unless I go into labor on the weekend then I will have the OB not her. Also, my current OB is their backup in case, for some reason, neither of them are available. My OB doesn't seem opposed to the things that I want he just seems wary, I'm ok with that. i'd rather have to remind him that I'm OK and confident in my plan than have a doc that is totally against it. The midwife said that the OB thinks that everyone should have an epidural, of course, leave it to a guy to think we can't handle it! I'm glad I visited with her, it made me feel confident we are with the best doctor out of our options and she told me that no matter what it is MY birth and they can't make me do anything so just to remember that.

BettyWoo-bummer that you won't get a chance to meet the other midwives. My current OB has another doc that does backup sometimes (the doc from the practice I visited today) but he said that the chances are very slim that I'd end up with the other guy. There is another OB in the practice I am with and I think I'm going to schedule my next appt with him so that I get a chance to meet him and he can have a look at my birth plan too. Might as well have all people prepared and "briefed" ;)

Nikki-That's so exciting that you got your tub liner and have most things set up for your labor. It's all coming so quick but you can get it done! I can't wait to hear your birth story and hear how it all went :)

I had my 32'week ultrasound and appointment today. Baby is measuring 5 lbs 4 oz. gee whiz I'm going to have a big baby!!! All of the individual measurements are saying I'm at least 2 weeks ahead. I know the later ultrasounds are not as accurate, but my my original due date was supposed by to Mar 24 based on LMP....but I did ovulate and should have been mar 28 according to ovulation. Instead, my initial ultrasound dated me to be due on April 3. I hope this means baby will come a little earlier.

It was a circus in this office this morning...with the snow storm coming they were trying to reschedule people for another day, but dh had taken the day off anyway so we got in. However my midwife was at the hospital delivering a baby, so I was stuck seeing the ob that I saw last time (that I don't really care for). *sigh* she was bringing up induction again and the option for a section. Uggghhhh. I told her I have no desire for induction, definitely no desire for a section (she was concerned that I had a third degree tear with ds due to his size and I told her I was willing to risk the tear). Oyyyyyyyyy.

Hubs and I both think baby girl is going to come early. Is this a normal concern that most people have? It's not that I'm "worried" she might come early but I seriously feel like she will come anytime between now and her due date. All of last night and into this morning I had cramps off and on and thought "oh, no what if this is early labor"....anyone else feel that way?

Part of my thinks that I'm feeling that way because I'm not used to all the things my body is going through but it's weird to me that as soon as I said it to hubs he said "yeah I've been thinking for a while." I guess we'll see!

I think the same thing, but I'm sure we are fine. ;) I think the cramps are maybe the crazy growth spurts because I had a them too and then noticed dwindling movement for a bit, but now she is back to full movement and her heart rate was great.

But I think to myself daily, 'geez it feels like any minute!' I can barely breathe or sit comfortably so its like a LONG 6.5 more weeks, but I'm trying to just count down to other (earlier) fun dates like my doctors appointments, baby showers and my friends due date to make it go by quicker.

It is totally normal to feel that way... I felt like that with my first and had prodromal labor for weeks before she was born. I was 3cm dilated for over a month before I went into labor, but she actually came on her due date! The end is hard, but all you can do is relax and wait and trust your body and baby to choose the best birthday! I like to enjoy the end of my pregnancy and "connect" with the baby by taking long baths and zoning out with candles (kind of also preparing for my labor "zone").

SO nervous about weigh in with the Maternal fetal specialist Friday as this morning the scale said I was up 2 pounds from yesterday morning. Logic says consider your increased water intake and fear says oh no i'm gonna get another lecture.

I usually step on the scale daily, and it seems like my weight will mostly be stable and then on the morning of my appointment it jumps up 2 lbs.

But yeah, I've gotten the "do you really think you gained XX lbs in a month?" to which I say "yuupp, probably".

I weigh myself every Monday at home and I was up 3lbs from the week before, but I guess 1/2 lb could be baby and it's not like I'm going way over my allotted calorie intake. Weighing in at the doctors office is always more depressing for me too because I come in like 4-5 heavier.

I think it's a bit unfair the way the weigh you at the doctor's, because normally you have eaten, drank, have got all your clothes on and your boots! Plus after walking for a bit during the day, you retain water. So I think the real weight would be 4 to 7lbs less.

PS. I am a FTM, due on 15th Apr:)

Went in for my 30 week check up yesterday, and am doing well. Starting to get tired easily, so despite my iron levels being on the low end of normal, I am going to start taking a little extra iron every day. Hopefully that helps! Baby girl seems to be growing alright, and I have only gained 1 pound in 2 weeks (for a total of 23). I have my next appointment in 2 weeks, which is when I will be starting my non stress tests 2 times a week! I am scheduled with all my visits until the end and either time is going to fly by or will drag on because I am getting uncomfortable. I hope everyone else is doing good and hanging in there!

How big are your babies? At my 33 week appt, my little boys weight came in at a whopping 5 lbs 7 oz. Aren't some babies this size at full term? Doctor says he's very large for this stage. Yikes!!

At my 32 week mine was 4lbs 6oz...I found a chart online that gives you their percentile and that's 34% so I guess it's not too big! According to the chart you are in the 50th precentile which I don't think it too big.

Did you doc tell you that ultrasounds this late can be off by a pound or two in either direction? It's really a rough estimate so don't put too much confidence in that. Also, don't let your doc convince you into an early induction or c-section because he's "too big." Apparently ultrasounds this late are not standard and lots of doctors who do check one the baby via ultrasound this late use the "too big" tactic for early interventions (my nurse friend told me this)

this is the chart I used: http://www.baby2see.com/medical/charts.html

Hey mommas! I haven't checked in for a while! I had a lot of stuff going on but as we reach the end I'm getting excited about losing some postnatal weight and so hear I am!! My update: 34 weeks today (due 4/9). Baby boy is named Dmitri. His big brother Dante is thrilled and turns 4 on Sunday! Nursery is finished. The last loads of newborn stuff are being washed today.

My question for all of you pertains to preparing meals for after birth. I'd like to start doubling recipes and freezing half in the next few weeks. Do any of you know of any good crock pot or casserole sites that offer low cal recipes for freezing?

Happy last tri to you all! You'll see me more and more especially after my son's birth!! Best wishes to you all!
