Hello everyone, I'm Jo and I'm 28 years old. I was diagnosed with Bipolar when I was 17 and last year I was diagnosed with Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID).
DID isn't probably known on here, so I'll give a short run down. I means due to severe trauma in my childhood I formed alters (formerly called personalities when the disorder was named Multiple Personality Disorder). I have 19 alters and a few of them make losing weight really hard (one over-eats, another refuses to eat, and one drinks alcohol every time he comes out).
Umm, I'm also on medications that interfere with weight loss: Lithium, Geodon, and Zoloft.
That's about it. I'd really like to get to know other people who go through mental health issues and are trying to lose weight.

Hey there! While I'm not very familiar with DID outside of reading what you explained, I know that it is a difficult diagnosis to work through. I hope you find the support here you need. I'm bipolar myself (Type 1, meaning left to my own devices, I tend towards the manic side) and wound up here because of the lowest downswing of my life. Between that and a new med I put on 40 pounds, so I really hear you about losing weight while on medication. (Someday they'll create a class of truly weight-neutral meds, I have to believe this!)
Glad you're here!0 -
Oh a weight-neutral med would be awesome!
I'm Type 2, my main swings tend to be depressive. Though I do have a manic few days about three times a year.
It's nice to meet you!0 -
Hi wolfelements. I've read quite a bit about DID but haven't met anyone with so many alters. It must be difficult to focus on one goal, especially one as difficult as weight loss. Are any of your alters children? I would imagine that would complicate things as much as the one that drinks alcohol constantly. Well done on losing 4 pounds! :flowerforyou:0
