TSH came out to 97!

Hi all, my numbers have NEVER in my life been this high and I was only on 50mcgs and she increased it to 75mcg's and I don't feel any improvement and I know its only been a week but I thought Id feel little improvements but this is horrible and I called to tell her that I have been feeling awful and she told me I had to wait it out for 3 weeks 
! I know everyone is differen't but how long is it gonna take to feel some improvement, I was born without the thyroid gland so I don't think 75 is gonna cut it and when her nurse called she told me that 75 was too much in the past, well DUHHH :mad: its not the past, this is my life.. What is your highest TSH level you guys have reached and what were your symptoms, im just curious..

Sounds like you're on a T4-only med like synthroid or levothyroxine? Since T4 is more of a "storage" hormone it can take a few weeks before you feel better, and generally takes 6-8 weeks to see the full effect of the dose increase.
Does your doctor only test your TSH, or do they also test your free T3 and free T4?
On various thyroid boards I've seen people with TSH in the 100's and 200's, but not that often - a TSH that high means your pituitary is desperately trying to get your thyroid to work. I would really want those free T's tested.0 -
My highest was 177 (which was 6 months after giving birth to my daughter,) my bloodtest came back that i had no thyroid hormone at all in my blood. this was when i was first diagnosed with hashimotos and the docs believe my thyroid is completely destroyed. i was started on 50mcg, . took about 3 monthsand a few dose changes to get my TSH to 5 and i started feeling better. im now on 100mcg and hovering around a TSH of 2. my main symptom was fatigue. i could barely get out of bed and i had two kids to look after, feeling loads better since my TSH is better. hope u feel better soon x0

Yeah im only on synthroid and she had taken only the free t 4 which came out to 0.058 and I had asked to have the others taken but she said she doesn't find those helpful:mad: im like wtf! I had lost trust in doctors cause if they wont do the full battery of thyroid test then how the hell am I gonna feel better, she doesn't find T 3 helpful either which is a bunch of BS.. This is just a bunch of crap..0 -

That free T4 result doesn't look right....you'd be comatose with a free T4 of 0.058....0 -
Are you in the uk by any chance. I have been battling with my gp fir over a year as im on 175 of thyroxine and feel crap. I believe have a conversion from t4 to t3 problem but they wont test my t3. Urrgghh0

UK here as well and still struggling to get anything other then TSH tested, but im going to keep on trying. almost hit my doc when he came out with. 'if your TSH is fine then you are fine' and when i asked about what if my body couldnt covert it properly. he said 'why wouldnt it be able to do that'' i was like 'i dont know why the hell did my body attack my thyroid in the first place'.... ARGH. and he always has that 'im a doc i know what im talking about' tone of voice...... and now rather then having a thorough look into my thyroid levels he has decided my syptoms must be caused by something else so is going to do other random hormone testing as he says 'it cant be my thyroid making me feel crappy when my TSH is perfect' ARGH i hope you guys have much better luck then me. I definitely think a change of doc is in order, x0
