Yo fellas!

Another week has gone by. What's the news? I mean besides the fiscal cliff and sequestration crappola.

For the eighth consecutive week I'm posting a loss. According to my bathroom scale, another 2 lbs bites the dust. My original plan was to get to 220 today, but I did that last week, so I'm ahead of schedule. My orignal plan was to get to a goal weight of 200 by July 4th, but unless I slow down from my current progress, I'll hit that by the begining of May. Sweet!

With that said, I've been looking at officially changing my goal to try to hit 185 and will change my meter/ticker thing to match. 200 by May, and -5 lbs per month after that, would put me around 185 by August. Okay, that's my (revised) plan.

Another solid week with MFP and BMF. Down 4lbs and was much needed as I leave for New Orleans Saturday for a convention through Friday (Gulp!). I NEED STRENGTH due to free beers and food!

    Ted,
Good job on another solid week. Four lbs is awesome brother! When do you get to New Orleans? I know losing weight while traveling is hard enough on its own, but we got some great food here. I've lost 29 lbs since January, but I have avoided resteraunts completely.

Oh, and sorry I didn't get the new weekly thread started before you posted this morning. I've been starting the weeekly threads on Fridays because that's the day I record my weight, but If any of y'all wants to the honor of starting the weekly thread before I get here, go right on and do it.

  • Hey Fellas,

I posted another loss this week, down by 0.8 pounds. I have been battling a sinus thing and only worked out once this week. I need to get back at it because I hate not working out. But, my diet has been pretty good. I went to my nutritionist last Saturday and she said that my body fat was down by 2% over 6 weeks. I feel pretty good about that. My next meeting with her is in another 2 months. I am trying to have another bodyfat loss of about 2-3%. And me not working out won't make that happen so I'll be hitting the weights tonight. By the way, I am 5 pounds from my goal weight but I am thinking that I'll try and get down to 160 (another 5 pounds). This looks like more than 5 pounds of tire around my waist. Ha!
  • Kevin,

WoW Congratulations! I also started at 247lbs, now 235 and had a bad week last week.
Traveling and did not get to log in all my foods... and my lapse in missing a couple of days or workouts.
My goal is to get to 228 by March 22nd.... then I am setting a New Goal (YOU INSPIRED ME) July 4th
to be at 218lbs. Thanks to your success it makes me want to get to the next goal mark March 22nd!

    Best, John

A pretty good week. I'm trying to stick as close as possible to 1500 calories, and get out and do 45 min of cardio three times per week. I'm not struggling much on meeting he calories, except for one day last week, when i went to bed hungry.

Met with the doc yesterday. Blood pressure down, cholesterol down, triglycerides down. I'm feeling really good. About six weeks in on this thing.

The big question for me in the coming weeks is whether to start lifting while dropping weight. Lots of opinions on that one way or the other. I absolutely want to lift, but I know it's very, very hard to gain lean muscle mass while at a calories deficit, and I also know that "newbie" gains of muscle are massive when people start up... it's a one time thing. So I want to maximize that, and may have to wait until later this year.

    Have a good week gents.

Good week. If I flex I can see a six pack coming through. Best of all, the lady likes it. I think my pants are on steroids. They've gotten bigger and I have to tighten my belt to keep them up.

Had my yearly physical last week and passed with flying colors. Doc says I should live to 100. T was normal to high. Only thing is I need to see a specialist to double check the prostate next week. Should be ok but Doc wants to be certain. It's like saying to Superman, "There might be a little kryptonite dust on your cape. You should have it cleaned just to be sure." Not what a guy wants to do but you have to take care of your body. It's the only one you have.

    Hey guys,

Well, after a bad week last week I did way better this week. Down 3 pounds (though probably some of that is random variation.

Late in the week as I got tired I did worse on exercise and snacking - need to focus better this week.

    Keep up the progress everybody!

    Past week was hell!

I picked up my first ever arrest at age 58 for drunk driving. Exactly one week later my wife, the main income-earner in the household, gets let go. I'm nervously waiting for the third event to occur.....
They say that God doesn't give you more than you can handle, but She's really testing that this week at OUR house.

That said, I'm still logging, still eating, still sleeping and still exercising. Too much chair time this weekend doing taxes for everyone in the family (oh, BTW, our tax system doesn't need 'adjustments', it's totally screwed up and needs to be PURPOSEFULLY DESIGNED!) but still getting my walks in.

Even on weight this week so far (Tues is my day) after my big drop last week. I'm keeping my goal. And adding being supportive to my wife, doing some more exercise, and talking to my friends. That includes you guys.

Hey all. Saturday: I started out good and by the time I was finished walking the dogs (2 miles) in the afternoon, my calories for the day were negative. And then...

I went to a crawfish boil. I went in with a plan to do like last time and limit myself on how much I'd eat. I only ate 2 half ears of corn, a dozen crawfish tails, maybe 2 oz of sausage and a small chunk of potato. But, the whole time I was there, I snacked on tortilla chips with home made salsa and crackers and "Low fat" cheeseball. Oh, and I drank about 10 Bud Select 55s. All in all, I probably (and I'm just guessing) stayed in the 2,000 calorie or less range for the day, but I think I put on two pounds. Even after having a real good day yesterday, I'm 2 lbs heavier than what I recorded last Friday.

I'm not sweating it, but I'm glad I'm aware of it. I hoping some of this added weight is from all the salt/seasoning in the boil and that it will disappear by tomorrow. If not, I still have the next 4 days to get rid of it.

[Edited] I sure wish this site would allow signatures or name aliases!

It does sound like hell. We're here brother. Just remember, binge eating or stopping your exercising will not make anything better. Stay on track. It all works out in the end.

On a side note, my wife and I both work for the govt, and we're looking at losing a work day (and the money that comes with it) each week through the end of the fiscal year. It's going to hit us in the wallets, big time. I'm guessing that because Democrats and Republicans can't agree, our family is set to lose around $9,000-10,000 this year.

I've lost about half a pound this week, which I consider pretty good since I had a business trip to Houston (awesome restaurants) and I've spend half of it sleeping off a killer cold. I had my mind set on getting in some gym time, but hard to do when you can't breathe. The good part of being sick, I haven't had any alcohol since last Thursday night.

    I'll do better this week.

Times are always going to be hard bud but extra weight just makes things more complicated. I'm working on dropping this weight, it's a hassle that I'm tired of dealing with.

Kevin - Thanks for the good words. I am in my last night here and overall was very good. I walked from the JW Marriott to the convention center twice a day and walked the floor a great deal. No taxi's or shuttles. I logged 85,000 steps and worked out twice per day. Drank my protien/fiber shakes for breakfast and lunch and took part in the area's best seafood when possible. Tried raw oysters for the first time and like them (pure protein) and last night i had probably 2.5lbs of steamed crab and lobster. Drinks were every night but all within calorie limits. Weigh in moved to Saturday due to travel tomorrow. Will post my happy or sad results.

On the government front. Screw DC. something needs to be done to hold these clowns on both sides accountable for their actions and mostly inactions.

    Be well all!

Very pleased at weigh in this morning. Balanced my food/drink intake with high amounts of activity and workout. Got down another 4.5 lbs! Feeling great with my progress.

Bottom line is, if you have the tools to show burn (BMF) and intake (MFP), it is simple math that allows you to make the proper choice.

    Good luck all!
