In my opinion neither pic is funny, nor do they add value to the group. Yes, I'll laugh at stupid shit all day long, but when it comes to degrading another sex it doesn't tickle my funny bone... Maybe it's the mom side of me coming out (I hear enough bickering amongst my two about why boys or girls are better; correcting their name calling; etc). Maybe it's because while reading the OP I think about my 4 younger brothers. Or, maybe it's because I just hate name calling...whatever, obviously it's funny to someone. Just not me.0 -

Zach, If you find this post sexist, rude, etc. then why not say it yourself or hit the "report post" button instead of being bitter that no one else was upset? Or if you're having problems with specific people or comments, then perhaps it's time to PM one of the mods (we do have several of them!)?

In the interests of fairness, I am staying at work an extra minute or two to comment. It would be hypocritical of me to criticise the misogyny and disrespect shown by Seth McFarlane at the recent Oscars, and not to object to this. Many have said of the former "Oh, but it's funny. Can't you (collectively) take a joke?", and I have vociferously argued elsewhere that the objectification and degradation of women to little more than sex objects for the viewing pleasure of some male viewers is no joking matter, and belies a societal, systemic misogyny that must be challenged.
While I understand the intent of this and similar memes, and I don't believe it to be as malicious or systemic, intentionally or otherwise, as the Oscar debacle (not least because it does not use sexual characteristics, or ingrained stereotypes as a source of laughs), the fact is that we help no-one when we turn a blind eye in the name of 'humour' to anything which denigrates one gender, or excuses one at the expense of the other. Yes, I get that it's 'funny', and yes, there has always been, and probably will always be, a "merry war betwixt" the genders, but things like this paint with too broad a brush. If we women do not wish to be used as sources of amusement, we must think more carefully before we do the same to men.
Clearly, this has upset/offended certain men on this board. I'm not one for the thought police - I'd be the first in jail, I should think - but I wonder whether women in general have considered that the humour we object to may be just as objectionable in reverse, and what our continued use of it says about the chances for real equality in the future.

I was having a bad day yesterday and this made me laugh. I didn't mean any harm by it.

Thinking something is funny is not the same as "turning a blind eye" to the unintended consequences that may result. I refuse to be held responsible for knowing what everyone in the world will or won't find offensive and then calibrating my words accordingly.
A joke with sexist undertones is not the same thing as actual sexism. It just isn't. I am not offended AT ALL by the "women should get back in the kitchen" or "women can't drive" memes. In fact, I have an entire photo album on my Facebook page full of stuff like that. I think it's hilarious. I do not think it serves to denigrate women because I am secure in my womanhood. I would rather let the man drive, and I'd rather be the one to make dinner. I'm good at it.
