I'm on the edge (mentally) about the thought of a competition. I'd like to push myself the next 12 weeks to try and get past that mental barrier that I have with being #beastmode 24/7. Some of you may relate, most probably are beastmode already! :drinker:
I'm looking for input, if willing on this plan.
For clarification: 30 y/o, 5'8 1/2" 154lbs 29%BF (according to handheld and online military calculator)
I have just started (2 weeks in) doing this training plan:
Weights~ 5am
Monday: Upper
Tuesday: Lower
Thursday:Upper
Friday: Lower
Cardio~
2 Days: HIIT (either Wednesdays and 1 day in PM or 1 day following weights if my schedule is tight)
Saturday or Sunday: 45-60minute Steady State
I had been operating under the Leangains protocol but in an effort to try and approach this the way it's suggested, I have altered my schedule to try and do the 5-6 small meals again. With a 40/30/30 split. Trying to keep carbs-fiber under 100g 3 days, followed by 1 slightly elevated carb day. Calories set at 1680.
I opened my diary to demonstrate what I had been at. But have only planned out the next 3 days for what I have laid out in this message. I am opening to feedback and appreciate any thoughts given by those who are far more versed in this (everyone at this point!! :flowerforyou: ) Thanks!

I have no real solid advise other than go for it. I am trying this for the first time as well and am just trying to see what works for me and and go like h*ll.
LOL!
Maybe a bit more cardio - just because it burns fat and to drop the body fat %, or so it has worked for me so far.
Best of luck to you!0 -
I'm with green_eyed_beauty, more cardio. I wouldn't start off with much more but you may want to increase as it get closer to show time.0

Hi! Are you 12 weeks out now or just challenging yourself for the next 12 weeks to see if you want to do a prep? Sorry, I wasn't understanding. Either way, 2 HIIT and 1 SS could be really good but it really depends what you were doing that lead to it. Basically, is this more than the week before etc --- it can really depend. Don't sweat the #beastmode lol -- you don't have to be a beast to get the work done

Additonal thoughts/questions:
So keeping carbs-fiber is extremely hard (at least for me). I seem to be able to keep it under 120g without a problem. Is this sufficient? I try to make leg day *which also tends to be 1 of my HIIT* days a higher carb day. I'm just generally more hunger on that day so it works itself out.
I've been getting the 2 HIITs in no problem, same with 1 SS. Upper/lower split seems to work well, I can move it around as needed with glitches in my week (i.e. forgetting to turn on the darn alarm clock!! :blushing: )
I run most of my weight workouts as supersets. I've been directed to look at circuit training as another viable option. Any thoughts on that?
At this point, it's a challenge for the next 12 weeks to see if I want to do a full blown prep. I recognize that what I'm doing isn't full on competition prep. I want to challenge myself to be able to give this 100% and then move forward to the next steps.0
