Timing

Hi I've been on MF for about a week and was wondering if it matters if you eat certain meals within an hour of each other or does it have to be 2-3 hour.

Excellent question. I don't know the official position - I know that one point of the recommended timing is to stabilize blood sugar and head off hunger pains. Practically speaking however, there have been occasions when I have adjusted the timing and ate my MF meals closer together or further apart than the 2-3 hours, and it didn't seem to affect anything negatively.

Sometimes I have to adjust the timing to get all 6 meals in if I get busy at work or something, but I was told it is better to do that than to skip a meal.

I don't think the timing matters beyond trying to keep your blood sugar at a steady level - you don't want the wild dips and peaks you can get if you space them out too far (which also contribute to hunger).

Sometimes you can't fit a meal in where you normally would - just eat it when you can, and move on.

The other day, I started eating late, and each meal kept getting put off further and further due to circumstances beyond my control - the gap between each meal wasn't crazy (3 1/2 hours for the longest gap - usually mine are set at 2), but it did mean that some of my later meals got eaten within an hour of each other, just to fit everything in.

Now, if you're asking about a 1-hour gap because you're so hungry that you want to eat that soon - well, if you need to, do it. There's no harm. But first - try drinking some more water, or have some tea or a diet soda if necessary, or chew a piece of gum, or simply get busy and distract yourself for one more measly hour until it's time for your next meal.

When that happens to me, I always tell myself that I won't wither and die from 'hunger' within an hour! I'll make it. And I do. :-)
