Why are they so awkward at first?? gah i hate first dates!! Anyone agree with me??

    I've heard they are terrible, but I've never been on a single date ever so I wouldnt know! (despite being in two long term relationships in the last 7 years. How bad is that?)

    They're awkward because usually people don't understand the level of "date" they're on. So many times my friend has asked girls out to the movies only to realize they had a boyfriend and they had no idea it was even a date.

    To explain the type of creature I am how I would ask someone out is "Would you like to grab a coffee sometime? ... if you hate coffee we could always just hit up happy hour instead." (I've said this next bit before...) "Sorry, I'm going to make this weird for a second. I like you and I find you attractive..." I like to be as honest as possible given the circumstances.

    Weird dates happen because it's too serious and stuffy. Be less conventional and I think you'll find the dates to be quite interesting. Activity dates > non-activity dates.

    We call them day twos now, (Day one if you meet online :P) but that awkwardness you are referring to comes from either or both people being weird, nervous, socially awkward etc.

    I've been on a few good ones....well they weren't great, but the conversation flowed. I'm use to talking to stranger though with my past jobs. I also don't expect much.

    I always thought a zoo would be a great first date. Plenty of people and animals to keep you talking about something.

    It has been a while since I have been on a first date as well however I am really thinking about putting my toe in the dating pool again soon....
