That was hard.

Didnt quite make it through w4d1. Seemed like a big jump to me. I felt like I needed more recovery time in between running intervals. W3d1 seemed hard but by w3d3 it wasnt anymore. Hoping it goes like that. Meanwhile my legs are so sore. Bought a foam roller. Gonna do yin yoga later today. Maybe my legs need more recovery time.
I did most of it but the 2nd round, I walked longer in between, and I broke the 2nd 5min up into 2 min and 3 min.
At least I didnt quit.
Gonna try to relax my legs today and try again maybe tomorrow. Dont want to get stuck here. This is where the real running begins!

Week 4 typically kicks your butt unless you're running slowly enough already. Good for you for not quitting. Make sure you're running slowly enough to complete each run. That way you'll be paced right to finish the program.0

Week 4 was tough -- I had to decrease my jogging pace to 4.5-5 mph (on the treadmill), *and* my walking pace to 3.5 or even 3 mph at times. The "slowing down" advice has been good for me!0 -
Week 4 is a tough one. I, too, had to slow down my jogging speed.
Congratulations on not giving up! Yay!!0 -
I'm struggling with this one too! I know I can do it, but can't seem to get in the mental game. Any suggestions?!?!0
-
You just need to believe you can do it. That's it. You've been running for 4 weeks, you've completed all of the workouts up to this one. You're physically capable of each run. If you're not able to complete them, then you're pushing yourself too hard. Relax, slow down and let your body show you what it can do.0

I'm struggling with Week 3 which I will probably do over again.. 3 minutes seemd LONG for me, as I'm a NON expeirience runner.0

w3d1 was hard for me but I breezed through d2 and d3. I think some days my body is more willing to run than others. I did one of the 5 min runs. That should feel like progress. I dont want to get discouraged. My speed is already slower than any of you. Im gonna do yoga right now. I think my body wants stretching.0

I don't think you're slower than I was. I rocked a 20+ minute mile at that point in the program.
You are right. Sometimes runs are just hard. Sometimes there's a reason for it sometimes there's not.
It's totally awesome that you were able to run for 5 minutes. And I'm totally jazzed that you finished the entire session. A few seconds of walking don't make that much difference in the long run.
But that's also your body telling you to slow down. Even now, when I've run for 30 + minute four days a week since early February, I still have to listen to my body and slow down so that I can make it all the way through a run.
Have a great time stretching!0 -
Give yourself a rest day before trying it again. I bet you'll be surprised at how well you do.0

For some of us, even your "slow" speed is too fast! My best jogging pace is 3.5 MPH (I can't stay there, but I have not been going below 3.0). My walking pace is usually between 2.5-3.0 MPH).
I only mention this because I was discouraged by some posts that talked about slowing down before I realized that "slow" to me is different than "slow" to someone else.
The best advice I got was: Make sure you can complete the runs---even if you are barely running. Speed will come later.0 -
Thanks everyone for your experiences and encouragement! Glad im using MFP! I feel less achey now and im lookig forward to trying to make it through tomorrows lesson. I will slow down! I guess we build endurance first.0

Every run I think, holy cow, can I do that? Week 5, Day 3....serously...20 minutes solid of running after a couple 5 & 8 minute runs?! And guess what, I did it. Slow and steady on the treadmill, I did the 1st 12 minutes or so at a 4.5 and getting spooked dropped down to 4.2. Sweating and breathing heavy I did it. All of it, not one second of quit in it. Who cares how slow as long as we're doing it. There will be time to get faster later. Nothing after this run looks quite as scary and I can hardly believe I'm more than 1/2 way through, only 4 weeks left and I'm a runner. Woop woop!0

Stick with it. Week 4 was the roughest week of the whole program for me, but it'll have you ready for week 5 which isn't nearly as bad as you think.0

No worries, man. What I did if that happened ot me was just repeat that workout until you can do it successfully then move on. I'm doing it on Week 8 Day 2 right now. Haven't been able to do that 28 minute run yet. Will keep plugging along until it gets done.0 -
I actually rested 2 days and then did w4d2 at a slower pace today. It sort of clicked for me as I was jogging without suffering... oh.. thats how you're meant to do this. The slower pace was just what I needed.
5 mins still felt like a long time and the short rest between intervals still seemed short, but it was do-able and I did it without much fanfare because I didn't feel like I'd suffered, so I didn't feel like I had to celebrate at the end of it.
I just did it and that was that.
I guess that's what it's supposed to be like?0 -
yes exactly what its suposed to be like I still run no faster than a 3.5 on most days but its a steady 3.5 now
You can do this just keep it slow and steady speed will come later turtles still pass me when I run0 -
LOL @ the turtles I actually can walk faster than I can run but I suppose that didn't come in 4 weeks time either.0
-
Yeah you shouldn't really feel like you're suffering to get through it. The further you get, yes you're most likely gonna be uncomfortable, but you'll find it gets easier if you stick with it! A good rule of thumb is, if you can relatively keep up a convo with someone while running, you're at a good pace. However, I break this all the time lol. I've been using C25K as my recovery from IT Band syndrome, and it's been going great. Ceelebrate every minute you get through!0
-
That is great you did it! I think that trying to go to fast is the main reason people quit this program. They feel like they should be "running" right from the start. I know that I never would made it through if I was going on speed;)0

Yes! Yes, that's it exactly. That's how you should feel during your "easy runs" during the rest of your life as a runner, no matter how fast you end up over the years. Yay!!!!!0 -
I did my Wk4D1 today. I was so nervous I actuallllyl started crying from nerves for my 1st 5min run. :NERD!! I totally understand your feeling. But I (WE) did it!! I would love a friend at the same week than me, if your interested.0

I got busy with work and couldn't get back to doing C25K until today so I've just done the w4d3. I was a little nervous after so many days off but I told myself I'd do fine if I kept my pace slow, Oh right, that thing about how you should be able to carry on a conversation. Also I did it first. I've been doing other stuff at the gym and then hopping on the treadmill afterwards. If I do C25K first it's a lot easier cause I'm not already worn out
Today, for the first time, my mind wandered and I wasn't watching the clock thinking I can't make it to the end of the jog interval. I feel like that's a breakthrough. Slowing down does seem to be the key! Thanks everyone for your advice.
I'm not working most of this week and I hope to become a gym rat!
I hope to finish week 5 this week even though it scares me0 -
I'm starting W3D1 tomorrow so Im hoping its not to hard on me. I finished W2D3 with a 2.09 mile run in the 31 minute workout.0
-
You are doing great! Not watching the clock is huge!
I'm in the middle of w5. I did w5d1 and but I did four 5 min runs instead of three. Today I did w5d2 and I did two 10 min runs instead of 8 minutes. I want to be ready for w5d3.0 -
w5d3 scares me.0
-
You guys are scaring the CRAP outta me! I'm about to start w2d1 tomorrow... :-) Love the advice though!0
-
Other people have done it--we can do it too!0
-
You'll be ready by the time you get there. If *I* could do it, anybody can. LOL.0

I've been struggling with week three. I have completed three runs but I'm going to try at least one more before moving onto w4. I had to really push myself to complete it. On yesterday's run I kept telling myself during that last minute & a half - "I don't stop when I'm tired; I stop when I'm done." The pep talk to myself seemed to do the trick.0
-
w5d3 scares me.
Don't be scared! When I first saw that W5D3 was 20 minutes, I basically already KNEW that I wasn't going to be able to do the full 20 minutes... But I did it! I finished all 20 minutes without stopping, without walking breaks in between.
Just remember to go at a steady pace that's pretty slow, I've heard it should be a pace you could speed-walk at. If you're running outside, adjust your speed to what your body needs. And don't be hard on yourself if you do have to walk. Your body's still getting used to running, and it will get easier I promise! I just finished W7D3, running 25 minutes like it's nothing.0
