Additional calories:

UK:

Only 200kcal extra in 3rd trimester

US:

2nd Trimester: 300kcal
3rd Trimester: 450kcal

Japan:
First trimester:         +50 calories
Second trimester:    +250 calories
Third trimester:        +450 calories

France

Minimum 2200-2500 to begin with, and a range of advice after that which actually mentions activity level!

I wonder why the UK advice is the least generous...

I always wonder about that, too. WHY does the US have such high calorie counts?
When my mother we pregnant in the 80s, they told her to only gain 15-20 pounds. Now they say 25-30 in the US.
Babies are on average 2 pounds heavier than they used to be. Why?

Seems like way too much weight gain to me in the US

I'm in the second trimester (22 weeks right now) and I'm still maintaining with the odd day I go over in calories :) I've gained 7 lb so far on maintenance so I don't think I'll be upping the calories any time soon.. I do relax and go over when I'm hungry though.
