Taking a Rest Week

Tomorrow I'll start my 7th week of 5x5. I only do 2 workouts a week, A on Monday and B on Thursday. I'm doing well, I haven't missed any reps yet, and each week the increase in weight feels about the same level of difficulty as the week before- hard, but not impossible. I do kind of get psyched out on deadlifts but once that 1st rep comes off the ground I know I'll be ok.
The following week, what would be week 8, I'm leaving on Wednesday and riding my motorcycle down to visit family in Charleston, SC. It's a 650 mile ride that will take me probably 10-12 hours- a LONG day in the saddle and physically demanding.
My plan is to not work out at all that week, the last thing I need is DOMS from squatting on Monday at the onset of a long ride.
When I return, I'm going to pick up where I left off and see how it goes. I was thinking of repeating week 7 again, but usually after a rest period, I can come back just as strong, so hopefully that will still hold up. The only issue will be my level of fatigue from the return ride home on Monday 4/2. My plan is to work out Tuesday, but I might have to push that out another day.
Not really any questions here, just wanted to post up on what my plan of action is. Comments/suggestions are of course always welcome! When I was powerlifting I always took a full week off every 8 weeks or so anyway, so this isn't anything new for me.

I've just had a week off, due to a nasty chest infection going into week 8 this week and plan on just starting exactly where I left off. Will let you know how I get on0

Nailed it! Lifted as though there was never a break. Just get back on it0

Cool! That's what I expect as well.0 -
I had to take a week off due to being sick. Other than being a little sorer the first day everything was fine.0

Playing it safe myself taking probably two weeks off from squats and dead-lifts. Been continuing with the rest of the workout, except adding in more body-part exercises since I still have the energy from not having to do squats. It sucks not being able to do squats because I really believe this is the main exercise that transforms your body and that's why the program has you doing it every workout.
This just wants me to show the upper body no mercy since I can't work the lower body :laugh:0 -
I had to be on the road for 6 days this past week and it really showed in my workout today. I had to drop 20 lbs off my squats and 30 lbs off dead lifts.0

well, I'm home, but 12 hours on my bike yesterday isn't going to translate to a good lifting day today, so I'm going to wait til tomorrow to jump back in. cardio today instead.0
