I have been doing some lifting during some of the classes at the Y, only at 20#. I'm new to the 5x5, so should I start with an empty bar the first day? I have downloaded the app to my phone, but have not paid for the upgrade, so will it tell me when to add weight? I have so many questions.

So. I've started Strong Lifts 5x5 about three weeks ago. Everything was going well, weight increasing per the app, until, when squatting, I pulled my groin. I am just starting out, so a spotter is not an issue. But my question is for some of you that are hiting higher weights. Do you use a spotter? Gave this a try over a year ago. Lost 30 pounds and notice a difference in muscle tone. Just got lazy. No excuses. All the weight came back with the return of bad habits.
