Don't like my new competition kettlebell

I have a 12kg standard cast iron kettlebell but the gap between ball and handle is too large which makes for uncomfortable snatching and cleans so thought I'd invest in a competition one but I really don't like it! It's way too bulky and I'm regretting getting it. Does anyone own one and is it just a matter of getting used to it? Even during windmills, it's unnerving to see a huge *kitten* ball on top of my head. I don't want to think of the damage it'll cause if I accidentally drop it. It definitely tests my balance but maybe that's a one of its benefits over the cast iron one hmm

The point is exactly that, that when you go up in weights the size and shape will remain comstant.0

I have a couple of steel competition bells that I use at home--I really only like them for swings, carries, single leg deadlifts...I use them for cleans, for push pressing, clean and jerk, and regular presses....stuff like that. I really don't like them for TGUs or for snatching. I much prefer the cast iron bells as a general purpose, all-around bell that I use for everything. I like the varying sizes of the cast iron bells and different sizes of the handles--for me, those differences are great and have been a welcome challenge, so I kind of miss that with the steel bells. I also find the steel bells too bulky and oddly balanced in comparison to the cast iron bells for a lot of exercises that I do. I just get on better with the cast iron bells.
I've had my steel bells for about three months now, use them about 4 x per week, and am still not into them.0 -
What brand are they?
They're wolvesson kettlebells (uk) and I think Steve cotter (master?) RKC recommended then. They're the ones that marianne from myth myth used in her workouts0 -
I am switching over from Aders to Valery Fedorenko bells. They take some getting used to. It may be disconcerting to see a larger bell above your head, but it's the same weight--so if it fell, it wouldn't matter if it's larger or smaller, it's gonna hurt no matter what. LOL
I have really been practicing the snatches hard to get used to the new bells. I hated them at first, but now? I love them for snatches. It's a different feel.
Just keep with it, you adapt.0 -

I don't find the "size" of the bell to be disconcerting. If the weight is the same as a traditional style, it doesn't bother me. If it's 20 kilos, i know that i can control it regardless of the size. I like the consistency of the size when switching weights - they all sit the same way during getups, etc.
The only thing that I don't like about competition style 'bells is that the handles aren't wide enough for 2 handed swings (at least for my hands).0
