Hi, I have quite a few events coming up and I would like to enjoy my meals/drinks out. Is it ok to save a few hundred calories each day to use on one day? Will I still be able to lose>?x

I don't know what other's think, but I've often thought it's ok to a point. You wouldn't want to deprive your body for several days with really low cal because that would mess with your metabolism, but I figure that if there are a couple lower days and then a higher day it kind of all works itself out. It's life.

If you are just starting out, it's probably not a good idea. Your body needs that consistency in the very beginning. However, after time I think the idea of a weekly average is fine. If you are at cut, I would recommend the idea of a refeed instead. I'll post a link in a bit about the benefits of a refeed once or twice a week.

This reminds me of the concept of cheat meals/days. Cheat meals are a great way to keep form feeling deprived and to de-stress but they must be cheat MEALS not entire cheat days. An entire cheat day or cheat weekend is just too much for your nutrition and your body will just store the excess as fat. Even planning for an entire cheat day/weekend would require cutting back too much during the week, starving your metabolism and going into the starve/binge mode that scares your body into storing fat. Further more, it prolongs the bad behaviour of enjoying a binge.

If you've properly recovered your metabolism you should have plenty of room for eating on the weekend, and not even feel compelled to binge. Pick one weekend day for your cheat meal and enjoy. Consistency is key for letting your body feel it can afford to burn fat.

I have no problem eating all that way up to TDEE whenever I feel I need to have a night out with the hubby or other event, but I don't take food away from the other days - I don't see the point really, you're trying to adequately fuel your body, not cheat it into releasing weight.

And when you think about it, what harm is one day of no cut? Gives your body a chance to process all the energy it needs that day, and at most I am reducing my loss that week by 0.1lbs!!!

Definitely, but just make sure you're eating enough for adequate nutrition during the week- don't go too low.

From a scientific perspective, it doesn't make sense that there would be any benefit to "consistency"- the only thing that matters is your overall average intake, so calculate your weekly average cal intake and make sure that's keeping with your goal. Actually, "consistency" might be bad (eating the same # of calories every day)- many studies have shown that keeping our body "guessing" is more effective at creating change. If our bodies can predict what we do, they get more efficient, which is not what we want while losing weight- we want to be un-efficiently burning up fat energy!

I eat 1200-1400 cal Sun-Thurs, and up to ~1800 on Fri and Sat. Average intake comes out around 1500, which is definitely my sweet spot for losing weight!

Yes you can. At the end of your weigh-in week, all you need is the right amount of deficit to lose weight. It doesn't matter when you eat those cals.

I would however, recommend not cutting it too much the rest of the week, simply because you may find that difficult and you still need to give your body the right amount of nutrition. 100 - 150 cals a day would be reasonable then eat light on the day of the event. That should give you a good night out!
