Every skip days of checking bg?

I know I did mine this morning, it was fine, but i didnt check it at all after this morning. Sometimes, I feel like it adds added stress. I mean, its not like theres anything I can do if it IS a little high.. i know what i have to eat, and I know if i indulge its going to be a little higher... Sometimes I wonder if I should only do morning checks........... Anyone else have thoughts?

    I can't say that I deliberately don't check mine, but I have had a couple of days in the last few months where I just plain flat forgot. I'd wake up, be late for something, so I'd wolf breakfast before I thought about it, and be out the door before I realized I hadn't gotten my fasting number. Then, because I was out of the house all day, I would have no way to check during the day. And, when I got home, it would be walking into dinner, with a bag and a half of homework to do. By the time I'd get done with the paperwork for school, I'd be so tired all I could think about would be bed.

    And, the next day when I got up, and flipped open the log, I would realize that I hadn't checked my sugars the day before. Yeah, about that time I'd start calling myself all kinds of ugly names. Especially if I had some higher numbers.

    Yup, most days it is because I forget to and my meter is at home. It all works out because some days I will test several times and I only have so many strips.

    Since the day I was diagnosed I have never forgotten or didn't want to.. I like to know what's happening with this old bod of mine.. for me it's not an option... :smile:

    from Thanksgiving until the middle of January I only checked my blood a few times, I was on a "I don't care" kick. When I saw my Endocrinologist in mid January I got a wake up call -- my A1c had gone from under 6 to over 8. I haven't missed a day since January and I won't again.

    Since my last A1C, my PCP actually has me down to testing 2-3 times/week. So far, I haven't been able to let go of the morning test, but I need to. Right now I have enough strips, but they will decrease upon refill, as my insurance decreases what they'll pay for. I need to start thinking about getting comfortable with testing less often. I also need to get comfortable weighing myself less often. So far, I'm a bit obsessed with both.

    The strips are ridiculous. I havent tested since Sunday morning. Im ok with that though. I just got a shipment in today from amazon, going to start doing the morning again tomorrow. I am not looking forward to it, as i had turkey and dressing tonight, LOL

    Since I've started losing weight, I've been testing more often. That's because I'm on insulin and want to be sure that I won't drop if what I eat doesn't have enough carbs if my sugars are already low to begin with. Before I started losing weight, I would maybe check them once a day if that. It's not that I didn't care, it's just that I knew they were ok. I buy a little vial of 50 strips with a meter on the vial for $20 at Walmart. Not too badly priced.

    My insurance quit covering my test strips for my One Touch Mini Ultra. I found out Walmart has a meter called Relion prime and the strips are 50 for $9.00. I have switched meters and test daily (usually more than once a day)

    im ok with once a day now too. I think fasting is the most important. Lets face it, you know damned WELL if you eat tons of cakes or rice, its going to go berserk. I dont do that.

    Once in a long while I will have a day when I forget to test after the morning test but that is sooooo rare! I test about 7 times a day (including one in the middle of the night) so I have a really clear idea of the effects of food and medicaion (Insulin and gluconorm) and avoid lows. I don't think I would have made it this far in weight loss without testing and the adjustments to my meds the frequent testing allows.

    It breaks my heart to hear all of you rationing test strips because of the cost or the limitations of your insurance. Seems to me that the needs of your health should dictate how frequently you test. Because I am not low income, my government does not pay for my strips, but the secondary health care coverage I have through my pension pays 80% for as many as I need.

    SOoo, yeah. I did not test at all for 20 years... denial. powerful stuff.
    About a year ago the dr said I want you testing twice a day...

    I am NOT good with pain. And my imagination drove the pain factor WAY up.
    So I have back stock of testing supplies.

    Dr said Insulin is in my future. NOW i am testing religiously at LEAST twice a day,
    more often if I'm feeling "weird" I can always tell when I'm a little low due to
    exercise burning off reserves, or not getting enough calories in in a timely manner.

    I'm not going to skip a test again....
