So frustrated and discouraged...

I find it so hard to be a mom to 7 kids and eat perfectly every single day. I am discouraged that even when I allow myself a treat meal once a week in makes me gain pounds! I work out at the gym 5 days a week..... If I could only get my diet under control 100% everything should fall into place. I am training for a Spartan Beast the end of June. I understand how much MORE difficult it will be on my body to lug the extra weight around. WHY is my body hanging onto this extra fat ?? I have been yoyoing between 2-5 pounds for a very LONG time. Sorry... I just needed to vent. I can't believe how difficult this process can be at times. Mentally challenging as well. This is a full time JOB!!! Who ever says you can get something from NOTHING is wrong!! You have to work hard for what you want, and then have FAITH that it is all going to work out in the long run. I feel like I eat SO much, that at times it's hard to get all my caloric intake needed because I feel sooooo stuffed. UGH I don't like feeling stuffed like a pig. But I don't like feeling hungry either.......

Eat as clean as you can and push your body to failure. You'll see the results you want.
My results have taken 12 months and I've seen similar transformations online in before/afters in 3 months. All bodies are different from hormones to genetics. We can't possibly force out bodies to shed the weight we are mentally frustrated with.

Trust the process, work hard, and you will get there in time!

    5 days a week exercise.
Is every day intense as can be causing extra stress, or do you have hard and easy days to really allow improving the body?
Any lifting in there, or all cardio?

If one treat meal causes a gain in lbs, obviously water, some of that may of course be sodium, but some may be glucose stores with water.

Now if sodium reason, and you really had a deficit and good metabolism, you'd still lose, just be carrying extra water while you lost.

But if glucose reason, then why are your stores so low that 1 meal tops them off to the tune of many lbs of water?

Because I'd suggest you aren't eating enough for your level of activity for rest of the week, which is slowly but surely depleting those stores. Until you refill finally.

Friday before the big Saturday meal (if that's the day), fit 2 bagels into your morning diet and drink plenty of water.
    Did weight go up?

What is it that you are eating when you notice the increase? I would be thinking that it's high in sodium. This is normal. You are not gaining fat, it takes at least 3500 EXTRA calories for you go gain a lb of fat. How intense are you workouts? You could also be holding on to water due to excessive training. What are you netting in daily calories? Maybe you aren't getting enough with the amount of exercise you're getting. Without being able to see you food diary, it's hard to give any specific feedback.

When I yo-yo back and forth between the same 2-3 pounds, I've had to increase my calories. This happened to me again recently and it was suggested that I increase from 2000 cals to 2200 cals and reduce the amount of cardio, I was doing.....followed the advice and the weight started coming off again.

Did you re-drop to 2000 after a time or are you keeping them at 2200? This always confused me.
  • Thank you everyone! I have been keeping a close eye on my body fat measurments every 2 weeks. My brother is a personal trainer and is encouraging me to eat this way. He says that I have gained 3 pounds of lean body mass in the last month. So that may be why I am not seeing my weight drop. This is what my caloric intake looks like:

Your BMR is now 1868 which is up from 1833 so this is great!

    Baseline calories:
    463 fat
    1027 protein
    1339 carbs

    Light Days

    278 fat = 31 grams
    1027 protein = 256.75
    1246 carbs = 311.5

    Heavy days

    556 fat = 62 grams
    1027 protein = 256.75
    1524 carbs = 381

I'm keeping them at 2200. No point in dropping back down to 2000 again b/c that will only result in a another weight loss stall.
