PCOS and Ecouragement!

Hello ladies,

I am new to the group and have joined with hopes of sharing and caring with others who face the same problems as me! I have moved to the US recently and find myself with little to no company to talk to about this and it gets kinda lonely.

I'll start by telling you about myself. I am 28 years old, married and have had PCOS for 10 years now. I started taking Metformin and Dianette, but had to eventually discontinue both when I was diagnosed with clinical depression some 4 years back!! The hormone replacement was apparently not working. Life has been a little hard, but its getting better now and I am feeling more positive about the future. I am attending graduate school here in the US and with little to no time to plan anything out. But it is better now then it was a few weeks back.. so again staying positive!

ANYHOW, people who live here, have u noticed just how frikkin easy it is to get hold of high-carb bakery style food!!! OMG, the day I forget my lunch to school.. the healthiest options i can find are bananas. my sweet JAW does not help either.. guilty as charged! So I gorge on pasta and muffins and coffee!! SINNNNFUL - not in a good way!

I have started exercising.. got a locker.. the works! But as always... I manage to talk myself out of going. :D Freakshow much!?

Have you faced the same problems? I feel that having seen so many problems recently (emotional and financial), I just give in because it is just so friggn gratifying to EAT SUGAR!

How do you stay motivated? I am so busy with studies (4.0 GPA woot woot) that by the end of the day have no stamina left to plan for the next! Funny that I dont let the studying suffer... coz it took financial investment and is a tangible input into the future I guess.. with tangible milestones - exams, assignments etc.

Just looking to chat and make friends and looking for some serious advice and encouragement!!

Lots of love to my fellow "cyst-ers" ( U can call me the queen nerd!)

P

Hey P! Your struggles are the stories that I hear all of the time from ladies with PCOS. I have found that the key to the sugary intake and loving the carbs is moderation. If you try and completely cut it off, it usually leads to overindulgence. I have 5 days of "controlled carbs" when I try to focus on meat and veggies and 2 days where more carbs is okay. I also have a cheat day (Saturday) where I can eat what I want and REFUSE to feel bad about it. Having PCOS at times is diffuculyt because it makes you feel less of a woman. Being on myfitnesspal and finding a whole GROUP of women that have the same issues helps and they are always so encouraging. Good luck in all you are doing :)

First, before I get started, congrats on graduate school, that is something to be proud of! I stay motivated by writing down the reasons as to why I am persuing a lifestyle change and I also write down non-scale victories such as fitting into new clothes, no longer being on mephormine, etc. I hope this hepls :)
  • Thanks a ton for the encouragement Hayngrl. I really really like your idea of moderation. These are such simple things and yet we forget all about them when panic strikes. :)
Carolyn Thanks! I agree with you.. without the positive energy things do tend to lose meaning and importance.

I love this site and all the help and encouragement it provides :)
