Inverted V - Grip

So Ive always had an issue staying inverted with the inverted V. I just tried with my upper hand turned thumb down, cupping the pole... this is wayyyy easier for me! Then I can use my top hand to push, so that I stay inverted. Anybody know if this is an actual grip you can use for invertsÉ I dont see why not...

I guess it wouldnt work out my abs as much though...

Ive just never seen someone use this grip for inverts, so Im not sure if I should just stick with this grip or keep practicing with baseball grip.

I'm not entirely clear on what grip you're referring to... think we all have different names for different grips.

Have you got a picture example so I can see what you mean?

Well I was googling to see if I could find other people using this grip and it was actually kinda hard to find anything, but I did come across a forum of a couple girls that said they found this grip easier too, and one of them posted a link to this video.

At the 32 second mark you see her use the grip.

You may find it easier, but there's a reason why she's sliding to the floor like that (I know she probably intentionally slid for the performance)...it's not a stable grip and it could potentially hurt your wrist doing it like that. Your wrist is not in a neutral position and once you flip your body weight upside down, it puts even more stress on the joints.

Also, I wanted to ask....when you mean stay inverted, do you mean that you find yourself sliding to the floor, or tipping over back on your feet? Because if either of those happen, it means that you're not straightening your arms and getting your hips high enough. You shouldn't ever feel like you can't hold yourself in that position, the hard part is actually getting your body up there, but once you straighten out the arms and let your body weight sink down (tilt your pelvis and get your BUTT HIGH) all you're doing is hanging.

I end up tipping back to my feet. If I start from an invert, then put my legs out into a V, I can hold it. I dont get it. Ive gotten a ton of more advanced tricks, but this one still gets me. I have even tried with ankle weights.

I think Im gonna keep doing this new grip, but keep practicing with the baseball grip too.

I'm not able to do this at all yet so not able to add much guidance but yes....your way the wrist looks more vulnerable. Good luck. Let us know what you end up doing.

I havent had a problem with it. I actually really prefer this grip. Heres a video of mine. Its the first pole video Ive made, just a bunch of practice clips, but you can see me use that grip a few times.

I still practice the baseball grip inverted V too though, and do feel like Im getting better at that too. I wont be able to use the other grip all the time.. like for aerial inverts.

Great vid. That's really awesome. How long have you been doing it?

You have your own pole in your house? I tried to put one up in mine and my wife said no.
