Protein & Carbs

Hi! Thanks for taking the time to answer questions! My trainer at the Y has suggested for my 3 main meals to limit carbs to no more than 40g and to have at least 30g of protein per meal. What do you think of this? I'm currently at 1800 calories per day. I've lost 35 pounds so far and hoping to lose another 35 and then I'll re-evalute. I've hit a plateau and want to get out of it, of course! Thanks!

I would eat 1 g of protein per pound of your goal weight and fill in your carbs and fats as desired. If 1800 calories stops working, cut 10% and wait a few weeks before you re-evaluate. That will likely come pretty close to what your trainer has recommended.
Btw, if your trainer has you eating 6 small meals throughout the day to speed up your metabolism or believes that your body can't absorb more than 30g of protein in a meal, then he or she is incompetent about nutrition and I would recommend hiring a RD. Just my 2 cents.0 -
Thank you! My trainer recommends whatever works for me as far as meals/snacks go and my hunger level, not necessarily 6 small meals. But each main meal should have at least 30g of protein. More than that is fine. I went to a nutritionist and I was not impressed. She looked at my records from my doctor's office (I have high blood pressure) and kept suggesting high sodium options for me. I pointed that out to her and it's like she didn't care. She only seemed to care about calories. I'm quite sure she was a RD. And if not, I was at a highly respected hospital in this area. I expected more and better! Sad!
Thanks for your insight! I appreciate it!0 -
Thanks for your question.
That RD sounds like she had no idea what she was doing. Sorry to hear you wasted your time with that person. Your trainer sounds like he/she knows what's up.0
