Had a binge yesterday...now I have a "binge hangover" What do you guys do the next day, of course I feel so guilty and bloated and gross. Do you guys drop to 1200 calories and drink tons of water? Do you guys eat your normal recommended calories?

Honestly, I think the best thing you can do is just forgive yourself and move on, making the next day a regular day. Maybe plan ahead about what you might do if you feel the binge buzz again. But don't punish yourself--you don't deserve punishment. And too much calorie restriction is more likely to trigger a new binge, IMO. Forgiving yourself is important, though. You wouldn't tell a friend that she was "gross," so don't tell yourself that, either. The tendency to binge is just a part of you, and you're working on bringing it under control.

    Good luck!

I second the "forgive yourself and move on" approach. It's okay, just tell yourself that your body NEEDED those excess calories (true or not, this attitude always helps me move forward). Work towards listening to hunger signals today. And yes, extra water can never hurt after a binge! You got this.

For me, forgiving myself and moving on works best. If I try to eat as little as possible the next day, it usually sets me up for another binge. In my worst binging time periods I practiced a constant cycle of starve and binge, so for me wiping the slate clean after a binge is best.

The next day is so HARD. I try to eat in my normal calories range. For a while I would exercise more and eat less the next day. However that would almost drive me to another binge. Plus It created a bad pattern of ....eat then punishment.

I generally make sure to get some sort of intense exercise in, because basically, you use up the excess sugar/salt that way, or at least get rid of some of it, which removes the tendency to crave more of the same after a binge. I also make sure to eat more protein and lower carbs for the day after, but the same calories. Think lean meat, veggies, hard boiled eggs, cottage cheese, greek yoghurt and such things.
  • I try to get right back on a regular eating schedule....even though I don't feel like it. I do drink lots of water but not an excess 8-10 glasses at least. I try to think about what I was feeling right before the binge...what the problem was and what I could have done differently to avoid bingeing. Then, I forgive myself and move on
