My life changed yesterday!

After a lifelong struggle with hypothyroid and the challenges we all experience receiving treatment- my naturopath prescribed me desiccated thyroid (erfa) yesterday! I started it yesterday and so far an on a half grain a day. She has me self medicating, increasing every 2 weeks by half a grain until my symptoms go away.

I'm so excited I don't even know how to contain it and its been 36 hours since she wrote me the prescription!!

That's so great! Take your temperature in the morning & that will help you in regulating... a bit anyway. You should be feeling better soon! :drinker:
  • That is fantastic! Glad to hear that you found a doctor who listens. Hope you feel better soon!

That is awesome! I love to hear when others find docs that LISTEN! I have an appointment for a second opinion tomorrow... I've been on Synthroid and Cytomel and my T3 just doesn't want to come up. I'm seriously considering switching to Armour. Excited!

So it's been a week since I went on my meds. So far so good. I am noticing that my brain fog and constant fatigue is improving. I don't feel perfect yet but it's a process and frankly at this point any improvement is changing my life. Right now my focus is on my diet, and ensuring that my medication timing is perfect and I don't ingest anything vitamin wise close to my medication intake time.

I am hoping in another 3 weeks to be closer to my end-dose but I'm playing it all by ear and seeing how it goes. There's no sense rushing it.

I just started on Armour two days ago. I was originally on Synthroid for 4 weeks (first time ever taking anything) and it made me eat like a horse. I feel better already being off Synthroid!

Please keep us updated on how you're doing. I'm also on 1/2 grain and will go for blood work in two weeks to see how I'm doing.

I've been experiencing horrific hives. I was in the ER and put on prednisone just to stop the swelling because I was going anaphylactic. I am going off of ERFA for now and going to have a full spectrum of bloodwork done. Reverse T3, Free T4, Free T3, and thyroid antibodies for Hashimoto’s (TPO-Ab and TgAb) and antibodies for Graves (TSI). It is common for people with Hashimoto’s to have ‘normal’ TSH in the early stages with cycling up and down between hypo and hyper symptoms, apparently.

I hope you feel better soon! I've never had the hives that you describe, but I do hate it when my body has a hyper reaction to my medication. Neither hypo nor hyper is good. I hope you find some middle ground soon.
