HRM as good as Fitbit to figure average TDEE?

I have a good Polar and I'm wondering if I can just wear it 24/7 for a week or two and average the total calorie burn to see what my TDEE is instead of investing in a Fitbit. I'll be doing heavy lifting 3x per week and hot yoga 2-3x per week. Thoughts?

No.
A HRM is not designed to be worn 24/7. You will not get accurate results with it that way.
On another note, the fitbit will not be able to track your weight training activites.. so you can use a combination of the two, to get your TDEE.. Fitbit for everything, HRM for workouts.0 -
And the HRM won't be any good at the lifting or probably yoga either.
HRM formula for calorie burn is based on steady-state aerobic exercise with HR the same for 2-5 min.
Lifting is opposite of steady-state and is anaerobic.
Yoga is just increased HR not because of aerobic, but muscle tension, either stretching on in constant contraction.
Totally inflated values.
That's also why it's inflated for less than exercise, not steady state aerobic.
You don't need FitBit either, just the spreadsheet if you want to try to nail your times and activities. Because neither of those devices will be good for your chosen activities.0 -
Fitbits and HRMs are good for various things... but not useful for the casual dieter/exerciser. Everyone on MFP would fit into that category virtually. I have an amazing polar f11 that I used for the firist 6 months every day until I realized it wasn't that accurate for what I was trying to use it for.
They are excellent devices for those who want to wear something to make them feel like they are making progress because a computer says they are.0
