TDEE from BodyMediaFit

I have had my BMF for a little over one week. I was surprised by the numbers. My question...Is there any reason not to trust the TDEE Im getting from my BMF? Or has anyone compared their numbers from the BMF and actually eating up to TDEE???

Since BMF bases the foundation of the math on the Harris BMR, if your best estimate using bodyfat Katch BMR is over 50 calories lower than Harris BMR, then it's likely they are over-estimating sleeping, non-moving, and slow-moving calorie burn.

Exercise it is good at measuring is still good though, walking, jogging up to 6.3 mph, steps, some hills, some class types.
It will still be bad at measuring lifting, rowing, spinning/biking, some elliptical, ect.

I done the math Katch BMR=1386 with TDEE=2149 moderate exercise with desk job.

    Harris BMR=1367 with TDEE=2119

BMF average over the last week TDEE=1923 I'm doing Jillian Micheals Body Revalution and started C25K maybe Im over estimated my exercise level. Each is 30 minutes long and I do them 6 days a week.

    Any thoughts???

Your BMF is going to be decently accurate then for that type of activity, and BMR matches.

Trust it if it seems to be logging steps correctly, and movement.

You can always scan over the calorie burn for a day, and look for interesting things. Like one person found big calorie burn on their drive to/from work. Their arm on window on bumpy road looked like a bunch of steps. Minor, but shows how it can be confused.
Or if during your JM DVD, you see a really high activity, and you know you were standing still doing arm raises, then not good. But what % of the time was that.

I lost trust finally and completely after spending a day doing chainsawing. Biggest calorie burn I'd seen, besting my longest 4 hr bike rides. And it was cool day, barely even sweating. But shaking arm looked really good to BMF.

So just scan through typical day including exercise, confirm it isn't reading stuff when nothing was happening, and giving you credit for movement you know full well was there.
