Ladies, a question...

This is my 6th week of Paleo. I have been pretty strict - with some falls here and there, but strict nonetheless. My question to you is, has this messed with anyone's menstral cycle? (sorry guys!) I'm right smack in between, and mine started again on Sunday. I read a bunch of things, one of which being that ommiting carbs can be the culprit. I have an appointment with my OB this afternoon, but wanted to know if this has happened to others? Thanks in advance!!

It hasn't done anything with mine but I have read lots of women say it can change your t.o.m,lessen it,take it away, etc.
Hope that helps. Most say there is an improvement with pms, mood etc

YESS!! since going paleo in October I had two periods after that, both 6 weeks aprt, which was weird as I am 4 weeks right on...but now I havent had a period since February and I'm NOT pregnant...so I am having the opposite reaction, but I also starting weight lifting too at the same time, and heard that more exercise and change in diet can effect period as well. I have a dr appt this week, we will see what she thinks. I'm hoping not a sign of infertility as I am almost 39. I am hoping its just the diet

I'm eating the lowest level of carbs of anyone I know and I have only experienced positive menstrual cycle effects which are: more regular, less pain, less bloating, less grumpies. Perhaps your body is adjusting and it will settle into a regular routine.

It's doubtful the doctor will be supportive of this lifestyle, even though they SHOULD be. Just keep in mind that few doctors are educated in nutrition and what little education they get is of the same quality as the info we get via the Food Pyramid etc.

When looking for a physician who is into primal/paleo try this website:

    http://paleophysiciansnetwork.com/

I work with an OBGYN who is on the list, so she is absolutely "in the loop" when it comes to nutrition. Unfortunatley med schools don't put enough teaching/training into nutrition.

I am very new to this, but in my experience it delayed it by ten days or so and then made it stick around for 10 days!!! Yeah, not all positive. Lol. I was just starting bodybuilding at the same time as cutting carbs, so I think my body just went WTH. :)

I have never had issues in the 6+ months living this lifestyle. I'm anxious to hear about your appointment though.

Thank you all so much for your input and advice! My OB definitely thinks that this could be a result of the change in diet and weight loss (~9 lbs in the past <6 weeks). She said typically any significant weight loss or gain can affect our cycles and that removing things from your diet altogether can have the same effect. She is running some tests just to be on the safe side, but for now she says there is nothing to worry about.

That said, if your cycle gets messed up and you’ve had a major change in diet or significant weight loss/gain, 99% there is nothing to worry about… but definitely go see your doctor to be on the safe side.

    Thanks again!
