Many of these recipes should be approached with a lot of caution. 1-2+ cups of fruit, even berries, is a lot of sugar. We're talking 30-40 carbs for a single shake. Please, please, please - load these into MFP and make sure they are consistent with your low carb goals before trying any of these recipes that contain fruit.

The list of low carb fruits should also be approached with high caution - those low carbers with higher carb thresholds may be able to consider these fruits, but those striving for ketosis should avoid most of that list.

I used to make this shake quite a bit -- I remember it being like a really yummy milkshake.

    CAROLINE'S AWESOME LOW CARB SHAKE

    1/4 cup heavy cream
    1/4 cup water
1/4 cup cottage cheese [full fat version - preferably 4% milkfat or higher]
1/4 cup egg substitute -- like "Eggbeaters"
    1/4 tsp vanilla extract
1 tbsp whey protein isolate (whey soy, egg, whatevers at hand) [optional - not included in nutrition info]
    2 tbsp sweetener
    1 cup crushed ice
    or about 7 ice cubes

Caroline says, "It's rich and creamy and yummy and sweet and satisfying, and easier to make than Atkins ice cream. I promise you won't taste any of the individual ingredients. It can serve as an occasional meal replacement.

Cover and blend on low speed for a few seconds, then on high speed for about 30 seconds.
When done it should be thick and smooth.
You can add a touch more water if it's too thick to blend.

**Variations: (each addition adds more carbs, so count them up!)
Coffee: add a half tablespoon of decaf or your favorite instant decaf. You can also substitute strong cold brewed decaf for the water.

Strawberry: add 1/4 cup fresh ripe strawberries.

Chocolate: add 1 tablespoon plain unsweetened cocoa.

Add protein powder for flavor or to boost your protein consumption. This will impact the nutrition info.
Your sweetener of choice may also impact nutrition info.

I make shakes and smoothies daily. One of my favorite low carb is:

    8oz Almond Milk
2 Scoops of Vi-Shape Shake mix
    1 Tbsp cocoa powder
    1 Tbsp Peanut butter
    Ice

    Another favorite is
    8oz Almond Milk
2 Scoops of Vi-shape Shake mix
1 Tbsp of Maxwell House Suisse Mocha Sugar Free Cappuccino
    Ice

I make several with fruit but I do not make those as often due to the high carb count (even if it is from natural sugar)

Jello makes lots of fat free, sugar free puddings that are good in smoothies. It helps thicken them a little and makes them super creamy.

I make LCHF protein shakes every day, often twice. I use them as full meals - so they're rather calorie-rich in my case.

Ingredients are almost always the same:

    * Roughly 1/2c of Heavy Cream
    * Between 2/3 and 1 full scoop of whey protein isolate
    * Small handful of berries - roughly 2-3 net carbs worth
    * Enough water to get the consistency I want

I'll occasionally skip berries in a chocolate shake and throw in one TBSP of natural peanut butter instead. I do like peanut butter and chocolate together.

This is usually between 540 and 620 calories, 44-50g of fat, 33-38g of protein, and never more than 4 net grams of carbohydrate.

What WPI do you use in your shakes?

I mostly use Ultimate Nutrition Iso Sensation 93 (I have a supplement store that has it on sale in the giant tubs the first Tuesday of every month) ... but if I forget or can't buy it when it's on sale, I'll also use the Kaizen Whey Isolate 'Decadent Chocolate' sold at Costco here in Canada.

Both are very high-quality isolates, clean, and about 93% protein with 1g of carbohydrate.

I've seen the Costco WPI but it's HUUUUUUGE. I would prefer to drink a shake for breakfast though because I"m not usually that hungry and I like to sleep more than I like to eat but I HAVE to go to work. I think a shake would be a good solution for those drag-your-feet kind of mornings :P

I like Isopure's zero carb protein powders and Any Whey's Unflavored protein (1g carb and I can add it to things like oatmeal, cottage cheese, yogurt, etc for extra protein).

I buy both in bulk on Amazon.

    My favourite is:
    1 cup of cold coffee
1 cup of unsweetened vanilla or chocolate almond milk
1 scoop of protein powder - I use Whey Gourmet vanilla
1/3 banana (can't really taste it but it sweetens it)
    6 or so ice cubes
    Blend and enjoy!
