Hello!
I am new to BMF, and so far I love it. It has been well..fun to see what activity means for me and to be nicer to myself and eat more. I've just had two experiences that I wanted some extra insight on.
I started Insanity yeterday and really expeted to see a big calorie burn, and I didn't. I don't think I have ever worked out so hard or sweat so much in my life. I did Zumba on Saturday and burned almost 500 calories in 45 minutes, yesterday I only burned 360 doing 45 minutes of Insanity. It didn't seem right based on how hard I pushed myself, how much I sweat and really just the difficulty of both. Insanity was way tougher for me. Thoughts?
The other is I'm curious...Is there anyone out there like me, that tried to hit 1200 calories a day for so long, before switching to BMF? What were your results? Did you begin immediatley seeing the weight come off or did your body have to adjust? I just want to hit 2 lbs a week. I have about 40 lbs to lose but I don't want to go back to starving myself at 1200 calories. It didn't work most of the time anyway.
Thanks!!!

I am not sure the answer to your first question. However with the second question, I did do 1,200 calories before I got BodyMedia and lost plenty of weight. Then when I got BodyMedia and continued with 1,200 calories, I lost 7 lbs in the first week. I became more aware of my exercise and was motivated to move a lot more.
Week 1: 6 lbs lost (6 lbs total)
Week 2: 4 lbs lost (10 lbs total)
Week 3: 0 lbs lost (10 lbs total)
Week 4: 4 lbs lost (14 lbs total)
Week 5: 3.4 lbs lost (17.4 lbs total)
Week 6: 1.6 lbs lost (19 lbs total)
Week 7: 0 lbs lost (19 lbs total)
--- Bought BodyMedia ---
Week 8: 7 lbs lost (26 lbs total)
Week 9: 1 lb lost (27 lbs total)
Week 10: 4 lbs lost (31 lbs total)
Week 11: 2 lbs lost (33 lbs total)
Week 12: 2 lbs (35 lbs lost)
Week 13: 0 lbs (35 lbs lost)
Week 14: 2 lbs (37 lbs lost)
Week 15: 3 lbs (40 lbs lost)
Week 16: 3 lbs (43 lbs lost)0 -
Well, I took my data after about 6 months to my doctor and we have adjusted my diet accordingly. And after being here for a bit, I'm triying to hit closer to my TDEE then 1200 since I've been eating less then 1200 for most of my life and have total screwed my body up. As far as your exercise goes, you can adjust your METS level at BM down a bit so that insanity workouts will get picked up more. I learned that I had to move hard to get my vigorours exercise going - running, zumba, things like that. My HITT workouts dont show up like running does unless we are doing alot of moving our arms in jumping jacks or burpees. I like spin classes and I definitely work hard but the only time its ever really registered as more than moderate is when I was really moving my arms as if I was running while sitting up in the saddle. So, the figures aren't golden or perfect but I feel they are better estimates than letting some other site guess my workout level which is what I've had in the past. I do karate on a regular basis and my calories burned are all over the place depending on what we've done in class. Often that hour is about 300 calories. Tonight it was 175 but we weren't moving hard. If I used this site, an hour of karate is about 900+ calories. I'm pretty confident that my armband calories are much truer than this website. You need to play with it some and keep wearing it, I've had mine about a year now and I'm pretty happy with it. Have fun!0

Isanity and Zumba are two different exercises I do Zumba once a week and get (like you) about a 500-600 calorie burn then do boot camp and sweat my butt off and only burn 350-400 calories. If I go for a hike I burn even more (like 700 calories) That is why the BMF is so much better than what we guess we are burning.
I did the 1200 calorie thing too for about 2 months and lost then hit a platau for 3 weeks and lost nothing (well gained 2lbs lost 2lb gained 2lbs lost 2lbs) and wasn't doing anything differently. I got my BMF and realized I was needing to eat more along the lines of 1400 calories a day. I've been losing since then pretty consistantly.0 -
I also get the same kind of result, 500-600 cal for 1 hour zumba but only 200 for 30 minutes of circuit workout. You burn more during cardio exercise but during the circuit workout you build muscle and will get more after burn and in the long run increase your metabolism and burn more doing nothing. It's nice to see the big burn during cardio .. but the muscle building is totally worth it in the long run.0

I am not an expert, but I have read and also based on my own experience. Cardio (like Zumba) burns more calories while doing it and Strength and Circuit training (like Insanity) burn less calories while doing it, but should keep you burning more after you finish the work out (the so call after burn). You will see more positive changes in your body shape with circuit training than with just cardio.0 -
Thanks everyone!! This is really helpful, and the afterburn bit with circuit training makes sense to me. I will keep with it.0

I totally hear you on the Zumba vs. Insanity thing! MFP had me burning 600 calories for kickboxing and it's HARD, but when I got the BMF, it's more like 400. I was bummed and surprised. On the other hand, the BMF gave me more burn than MFP for my resistance training.
My zumba class is over for now and I hope to start back up and see what the burn is for that!
I'm still eating around 1200-1300 calories. I think it's mental. The thought of eating more makes me nervous. And I'm still losing. I think part of it is that I have a weekly free day, which is part of the program I'm on. So I have 6 days with 1200ish calories and then one where I hit 2400 or more (I don't always track- again, mental). Maybe that free day balances things out or something and keeps my metabolism from halting. I'm guessing if I upped calories, I'd probably start gaining due to the free day!0
