Hi everyone! My name is Beth. I had gastric bypass surgery back in '04. Minus some stupid mistakes (like trying to "puree" my food by chewing it [with what I thought was] well. I ended up in the hospital with what was most likely an obstruction. I was only 10 (?) days post surgery and at a party, so the temptation was hard. I was admitted into the hospital, but it did pass. My surgen looked at me (I have never seen someone so disappointed - I wanted to crawl under the covers). He told me that I was very lucky that I did not have to go into surgery again. I listened to the guidelines after that. I lost weight quickly and the doctors were very happy with me. The only time I got lectured (until now) was when I weighed 119 (no skin removed) which was under my target weight), so I was told to put on a couple pounds (I have *never* heard that before in my life).

Well, last year, I became sick. The doctors think it is a connective tissue disease and a few other doozies on top of that. It will probably be another year before I am diagnosed. This has caused me to make my life from fairly active to almost nothing. A little less than a year ago (maybe July?), I started to gain. This was not just a couple pounds. It was more along the lines of 10 pounds a month. Needless to say, I am now 212. My doctor wants me around 125 to 130. I will say that it is depressing to put on size 20 pants again. I was a 34 right before I started to prep for surgery. My biggest fear is that I am going to get back there no matter what I do.

Since starting this site, I have lost a tenth of a pound (!) lol. I never thought I would be happy with that. I also started PT to get my muscles back in shape so I can start to exercise again. Right now, it just hurts too much (beyond exercise hurting - If any of you have Lupus of Fibromyalgia, you know what I am talking about). I also have confirmed Hypermobility, which means I can overextend my joints (without knowing it) and injure those areas. In time, I can exercise again, but it will just take time and perseverance.

Also, I do want to be here as a support to people going through the pre and post surgery. And since I am pretty much doing the post surgery diet again ( the dr wants me to do baby food / puree), I will probably need some support as well. I need to get that loss of 82 pounds back!!

Anyway, ttfn! ~Beth :flowerforyou:

I had my gastric bypass in 2008. I'm sorry you have had so many issues. I hope you find relief soon. Take care of yourself as you work towards losing the weight.

I had RNY in 1997 and lost about 120lbs. I never got at thin as you did - my lowest was about 160 which I was very happy with. My goal has never been to be skinny. But after 2 kids and still struggling with the love of food, I'm pushing 200. I do try to keep to under 1400 cals but even then I'm just not loosing weight. It used to drop off but now it's very difficult to loose even a pound. I personally believe it has to do with a new medication - I've been on a blood pressure med (for palpitations, not high blood pressure) for over a year and it really makes my metabolism sluggish. I've never been so frustrated before trying to loose weight. So I understand your frustrations.

    Good luck to you!

I completely understand about the "double jointedness". I have been exercising to try to keep off what I did lose and hopefully tone up and lose the last 40 lbs. I was doing tricep exercises and my form must have been off, because I ended up with tennis elbow. I had my knee collapse (which is what got me started losing weight), but I am in constant pain. I'm trying to build the muscles inthe leg to hold the knee in joint, but being so heavy so long my knee doesn't know how it is suppose to be in alignment.

Had the VSG. lost 114 lbs., and still fighting the wieght battle. I've had almost 45 years of bad habits and my body having to carry so much weight. I have learned it comes back to the basics. Watching what kinds of foods I eat, how much I eat and exercising.

Don't let the pain get you down. I know I feel like quiting a lot of times because of the pain. But I know when I can push it and when I can't and need to rest. Friend me if you like, and maybe we can share our aches and pains and our victories over them.
