My last A1 was 7.6 and I have not been paying attention. I need to get off the stick and take care of myself. I am determined to lose weight and do what I need to. I don't have a support system and really am going to need encouragement. Thanks in advance for the help:happy:

Hi and welcome to MFP! I went about 7 years, not caring of myself and not taking my diabetes seriously. After getting back from the doctor and listening to him tell me that I had to start taking care of myself, I would say I was going to...
Test regularly (always tested in the morning and only sometimes at night)
Take my insulin (always after testing)
Exercise more regularly (rarely happened)
Eat healthier and watch portions (never happened)
Something clicked in January, 2013 and I have been working harder at all of these things. My A1C was 8.1 in January and 6.0 in March. Now I...
Test regularly
Take less insulin (don't need as much because I'm losing weight and exercising)
Exercise at least 4 times a week
Eat healthier and watch my portions (try to keep my calories about 1400 and I eat back some of my exercise calories)
It is not easy and I do mess up, but I'm human!
I know you can do this too. I have had Type 2 since right before I turned 40 and on insulin for about 5 years.
I'm sending you a friend request and would love to support you along the way.

Yvonne, I'm glad you've joined the group and know you'll find many good people here. We've all got a similar agenda and that is to improve our health and do the best we can to control our diabetes. A combination of healthy food, exercise and weight loss is a motivation for most of us and we're all trying to see what helps. Some things work for one individual and possibly not for others...but it's good to have a wide variety of suggestions and feedback.
So welcome and this is a journey worth taking!0 -
Hi Yvonne,
You've given yourself a great start by understanding the need to take better care of your diabetes, it's these first few steps taken that are oftentimes the hardest for some of us to make. I commend you for reaching out for help and support from this wonderful group of people sharing common ground as diabetics with ultimately the same goals in mind for better diabetes management.
I welcome the opportunity to be of any help I can to see you succeed on your new journey.
Best of luck and good health!0 -
Welcome to the group. Feel free to add me. We all could use some support and help at times. I log in everyday and try my best to help and cheer on others.0
