Anyone dealing (or dealt with) plantar faciitis?

I have had pain in my left heel the past few weeks...pretty sure it's plantar fasciitis. I have almost flat arches so I wear $40 orthotic inserts in my $120 running shoes, but I still wear non-supportive shoes otherwise. Anyone dealing (or dealt with) plantar faciitis? What did you or are you doing?

Yep. I don't have flat feet, arches are normal, but I still have pain in my right arch. Nothing too bad, just a nagging discomfort. Every night I put my feet in a hot foot bath and dig my arch into the plastic roller on the bottom. Then I move on to massaging with a small ball on the floor (Due North Foot Rubz). Then I wrap an ice pack around the middle of my arch - where the pain is centered. Before I ever started running I dealt with this a lot doing stuff like plyometrics. But the pain now is better and not getting any worse even as my running mileage goes up.0

Good to have these tips! Thanks timeasterday!
So far it hurts mostly first thing in the morning and when I first stand up after sitting for a long time. I guess I could steal a tennis ball from the dog to see how that goes.
The Runners world article suggested freezing a water bottle (Great and informative article...Thanks Rduhlir!) but I'm really sensitive to cold. I'll just try to ball first.
I try to be sure to really stretch my calves out well after a run. I'm hoping to keep on top of it.0 -
If you are sensitive to cold, put a towel over the bottle, it will cut the chill down a little bit.0
