Hi gals! I'm new to this group. I've been working with a coach for only three weeks now so I'm just starting but he mentioned my lower body is overdeveloped and my upper body underdeveloped. Anyone have or had this problem? He mentioned no weight bearing exercises of any kind on my legs at all but I've still been doing cardio like the stairs and lunges and I feel them getting bigger/stronger still. I'm adding significant shoulder/back weights so I know what to do there.

What does everyone else do when they have this problem? Do I switch my cardio or just keep doing what I'm doing? I keep thinking I don't want to lose the toning in my legs so I've got to do something but maybe eventually the calorie deficit will take care of some of the extra?

Thanks!

If your coach can't explain it to you, and can't back the science up, then fire him. You are paying him for informaiion, not just a "plan". Make him work.

My friends coach has told her something similar - she is a 6ft girl - he has her doing heavy lifting on the lower half (5x5 i think right now) but she isn't allowed to run for cardio - nothing high impact - something about elongating the muscles instead of bulking the muscles.

i personally have found that high rep on my lower body works best for me (i have big thighs & bootty) and moderate weight. whereas up top, i do much higher weigh & lower reps. In other words, i strive to "build" muscle up top, but strive to keep muscle below. I might change this up after i get to lower body fat% (13) and then start to bulk back up - but i doubt i'll change it until the latter part of my bulk, b/c i want to even out my shape.

Your coach should be able to answer that specifically, being familiar with your body. This is not unheard of and there are a lot of tweaks to be made to create a balance in your physique. many use plyos, hiit, etc to bring their legs down
