Primal Stuff- products we love!

Hi folks- we've shared recipes and exercise tips- here's a forum about other "stuff" we like. For example- I just found a prepackaged refrigerated meal made by Nature's Ranger that I love! It uses meats that meet the global animal step 1 standard and has no antibiotics or hormones.
Here's the macros for per 1/2 cup serving ( though I ate the whole package for lunch which is 3.5 servings):
Calories: 120
carbs: 11g
fat: 4g
protein 12g.

It tastes good and is a good "in a pinch option. Downsides include some vegetable oils in the ingredients and a bit of modified corn starch as the second to last ingredient.

Anyone else find a product worth mentioning?1

If Barney Butter ever goes out of business, I may have trouble finding a reason to continue living. Seriously, I like their almond butter so much that I can't even buy it because I WILL eat the whole f'n jar immediately. What keeps me going is the idea that maybe, just maybe, someday I'll hit my fitness goals and I can actually eat it on occasion.

    Also: bacon.

I haven't tried Barney Butter- but I could use life altering almond butter! (really, who couldn't) I will get some on my next trip!

It's not the most paleo-friendly almond butter out there (It has "evaporated cane juice" in it, but I'm sure it's not a a lot. The listed sugar content isn't much worse than almond butters without it.), but I'll be damned if it ain't the tastiest I've tried. Maybe it's just me thought. I'd hate to artificially inflate your expectations. I may just be irrational. ;)

Oh my, I have so many favorites

    Rao's Marinara sauce
Any brand of good dark chocolate!
Raincoast Trading Wild Pacific Sardines... some great flavors making sardines actually edible
    Justin's Almond Butter, of course
    Red Boat Fish Sauce
    Frank's Original Hot Sauce
All those little 1 oz gourmet cheese ends sold at Whole Foods
Romesco sauce... just had the the other day and it's freaking amazing. I can't remember the brand name but it was this loony guy selling his jars at Whole Foods. It's my new fave, but I'm sure you can find other brands.
Every spice at Savory Spice Shop

Kombucha - I like GT's and High Country (not sure if you can get that outside Colorado)
Zukes Pickled Beets, Dulse, and Kale

The Paleo Kits and Krunch Bars are a godsend for snowboarding. No concerns about leaving them in the car, and they're more nutritious (and cheaper) than buying lunch at the lodge.

My sister-in-law owns a small company that makes Paleola (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Paleola/308927345806796).

I'm also a big fan of Dr. Mercola's Miracle Whey protein powder. It gets me through when I'm somewhere I can't get good meat.

Enjoy Life Dark Chocolate bar, yay for companies that specifically make stuff without gluten, soy, dairy, and peanut ingredients. Like other people where with other things, I can only buy them once in a while, or I'll eat the whole thing.

Trader Joe's Extra Virgin Organic Coconut Oil. 'nuff said

More of a "primal" item than paleo, but it's the closest I can get to raw milk without investing in a farm co-op - Non-homogenized, low-heat pasteurized whole milk from Snowville Creamery (local dairy).

Lemon Pie Lara bars!! So good if you throw 'em in the freezer! and they only contain dates, cashews, almonds and real lemon.

Nice tip on the freezer idea. I'll give it a shot. I love Larabars as well and the Lemon ones are definitely one of the best. They taste like a lemon Starburst to me.

Now, if they'd just start making a bacon, almond butter, lemon Larabar we'd be in business. ;)

Lara bars fo' sho'!!!!! ALSO- I just found pure unrefined coconut oil in a spray can ( I know, not enviro friendly) for cooking this stuff is awesome! I just made paleo baked chicken wings the other night and this stuff sprayed liberally on the pans helped them lift off! Find at Whole Foods near the oils!

I like the spray coconut oil too--I've been using it to coat the inside of muffin pans & even the silicone muffin liners to keep anything extra eggy from becoming a sticky mess.

Also love: individual serving packets of wholly guacamole. Homemade is better, of course, but you can't beat the convenience of the cute little packets. I use it instead of salad dressing on a workday lunch pretty regularly, and I like it paired with sliced red bell peppers for a portable snack.

Trader Joe's has spray coconut oil as well. I didn't look too closely at it, but given that their jarred coconut oil is cold-pressed, organic, unrefined, I assume the spray stuff is, too.

You didn't specify, so I'll go non-foot. I love my Five Fingers shoes. I don't run in them yet, but I use them on the elliptical and for walking and they are ideal for doing compound weight movements like squats, deadlifts, etc (LIFT HEAVY THINGS) since you have a much more stable platform from which to drive the weight.

If you look at old-school photographs of Arnold and Franco Columbo, they lift barefoot. Five Fingers is the next best thing.

I use a low profile shoe... not sure if I could do the finger toes (or barefoot) I'd be too afraid of dropping something heavy on my foot!!
    I hear they're awesome though...

The consequences of dropping something on your foot isn't really any different than the consequences of dropping something on your foot in just about any other typical footwear (ie - not steel-toed shoes), really. You drop a 45lb barbell plate on your foot is still going to hurt like hell regardless of if you're wearing Vibrams, Chucks, or what your parents gave you. :)

I have two pair of Merrells and they work great, too. I originally planned to go with VFFs but liked the idea of a normal looking shoe better. I'm not vain, you see (well ok, I am somewhat... aren't we all?). I'm just very introverted and anti-social and I know that wearing VFFs would cause people to comment on, and/or ask about, my strange footwear. Merrells look pretty normal so it avoids such unpleasant social interaction.

Random tidbit - the lower-contrast VFFs (such as the models with black/charcoal and black options) seem to be less noticeable to others. I get more reactions with my gray/lime Bikilas than I ever did with my black/charcoal TrekSports. It wouldn't surprise me if the ones that look more like tennis shoes, particularly the ones with designs that draw the eye away from the toes, would do the same (not prompt as much of a reaction).

I have a pair of VFFs, but I don't wear them any more due to the fact that after I wear them a couple times, they STINK. Also, I got a pair of all black Merrell Pace Gloves that I can get away with at work (in a more business-casual environment), and wear socks with them so they don't get as stinky. :blushing:

Most recently, I got a pair of Vivobarefoots that are for trail-running. I like them over the Merrells, due to the extra treads on the bottom put me higher on the ground, and less likely to have a wet foot in rain puddles (since they are all I wear, besides cleats). :) But if there is a situation where I need a more neutral-looking shoe, I go back to the Merrells (the Vivos are funkier-looking).

    I hear they're awesome though...

After a few years of having people stomp on my foot in cleats (OUCH!!! One time I had a completely black toenail that took a good 9 months to grow out and look normal again), dropping a 10lb plate on them was nothing! lol
