My weight loss goal is set to 1.5 pounds a week. I was feeling somewhat discouraged because I have these looooong plateaus where no significant loss occurs. Then suddenly one day the needle on the scale will move 2-4 pounds. I'm in one of those plateau phases right now. SO, it was very encouraging to do this little bit of math!

Today, I calculated my weight loss since beginning MFP and C25K and divided it by the number of weeks for the same period. Guess what? My average weekly loss was 1.56 pounds!!!

I went on to calculate where I will be in 5 more weeks and then in 5 more and so on...and wrote in my predicted weight for each of those days. I am hoping I will be celebrating reaching my goal weight in the first week of December. It seems far off but considering how many years I have spent being obese, it's not that long at all.

MFP and C25K work!!!! This is a lifestyle that I can maintain. I finally feel in control. I have tools to use! Weapons in my arsenal! I can do this!!!! I will succeed!!! Another nice little thought is that once I reach my goal, I will be able to eat about 500-750 calories more daily than I currently do! LOL!

Awesome!!!!!!

I totally LOL at work, so my coworker came over and read this. She laughed too.

I feel you though. I was in despair, had no idea what to do next and was nearly resigned to just waiting until the kids were older. Then my cell died, work gave me an iphone and I was looking for cool apps. That's how I found C25k - totally randomly (or divinely).

I came across MFP on Consumer Reports - also completely randomly.

The two together have been darn near magical!

Also, I like the idea of calculating out your weight loss so that you can feel in control with those plateaus. My challenge is dips and spikes, so I just keep track of new low weights.

Way back in October I ran into a friend I had not seen for a long while. She looked fantastic, had lost lots of weight and even had just completed a triathalon! I was extremely impressed. But she was just a normal mom like me. How had she done it? She told me about the book, Run Your Butt Off. Soon there after got my iPhone. Around New Years, I finally got around to checking out apps for my phone and came across 5K Runner and thought to myself, "Well, it wouldn't hurt to try. This looks doable." Looking for beginner C25K advice through google searches lead me to MFP.

Coincidence? Divine intervention? Magic? I thank God however it happened!

Yay!! It always seems so slow to me, too. Especially with the plateaus. But when I average it out, I'm really happy. And I'm truly happy it's not faster because of all the emotional and physical adjustments. I've never learned so much about my eating issues and how to handle food as I am now.

We're all pretty close in stats, and started pretty close to each other. My start date shows last year in Feb, when my coworker introduced me to MFP. But I didn't do it (quit checking in) soon after, and restarted when I wanted to begin running and stumbled on the C25K posts here. I was here thinking of restarting as I wasn't getting as much from my weight watchers meetings anymore, and cheked out the exercise forum. That brought me in, but I didn't start monitoring my diet on MFP until a month or so ago. I really like it all. It's much more what I need than WW is. The sad part is I now have a note from my doctor for my goal weight and almost could get lifetime there (so not have to pay). But I'm not sure it would help me now or be worth my time to even go. It actually came down to "Do I want to attend a WW meeting, or go exercise?" Of course I wanted to run and lift weights.

I do this too. Having recently upped my calories, taken a mini-vacation where I didn't track or work out much, and had my period, the scale's not happy with me this week...so I decided to skip recording it and vowed to work a little harder this coming week.

The only thing I find that keeps me sane is a little app called "Happy scale".

You weigh everyday and it plots your downward trend, through all the peaks and troughs, and it gives you a "predicted weight".

    I love it!!!!!!

    Thanks! :-)
Mostly I eat them back, but not always. Just if I am hungry. (Which is mostly! LOL!)

Actually, I just read a very interesting article about total calorie burn vs. net calorie burn that makes me think I will start eating back only 1/2.

    http://www.runnersworld.com/weight-loss/how-many-calories-are-you-really-burning?page=single

I track my burns through runtastic. I have always wondered how accurate that was. The runner's world article would have me multiply my weight by .63 to determine the net calorie burn for one mile. When I tested that against the runtastic figure for my run today the difference was 200+ calories. Runtastic is giving total calorie burn. Since MFP sets my calories daily for a sedentary lifestyle, I think I can safely eat back 63% of my exercise calories and still maintain the proper calorie deficit.
