I have been trying different ways to exercise and I have the opportunity to start a yoga class. I have read that there are many different kinds of yoga, as for the class, I'm starting with a beginners and a "Yoga Flow" class. I am just curious. I always thought it was more to maintain what you have and for stretching. Any info is appreciated

I've taken Hot yoga for a while now, and while I wouldn't say it was the thing to make me lose the weight, it didn't hurt. I love yoga, but i've always had a much better outcome with weights. I'm doing P90x right now and it's been night and day difference.0

I'd be interested to know also. I love YOGA, miss doing hot yoga (just isn't available here) but I also heard the benefits are more stretching and toning. As far as toning I personally have noticed differences when I do it consistently but I don't know about weight loss.0

Yoga seems to be more for stretching and muscle health. COmbined with a good diet it probably helps lose weight but not as well as cardio and weight training. What it will do for you is get you to be more flexible allowing you to do other exercises with less incidence of injury. IT is also great for de-stressing and centering your mind which can also lead to better results.0

When I first started trying to lose weight, I was doing yoga- vinyasa or ashtanga. I did an hour 2 or 3x a week. That combined with walking and calorie counting, eating healthy foods I lost 18lbs in 4 months. After that my body had adapted, I plateaued with weight loss and it became a maintenance routine. I will say, planks and sun salutations gave me better arm workouts than any gym machine!0

Yoga helps with strengthening your body. I've been doing it along with weight lifting and cardio.
Yoga 2x a week, cardio and weight lifting 3x a week. I've lost 10 pounds since March 28th.0
