Participated in very first kettlebell competition!

Hello Everyone!

This past Saturday, I participated in my very first kettlebell competition. After much convincing by my trainer, I reluctantly agreed to participate (let's just say that I have anxiety about competing and performing, and I am still incredibly unfit and overweight).

In the end, I ended up having a blast!

Here were my events:
Double half-snatch
16k x 97 reps in 10 minutes
1st place in my weight class

Clean and jerk
14k x 95 reps in 10 minutes
1st place in my weight class, 2nd place overall

Now, I am super motivated to beat my weight and rep numbers for the next competition (likely August/September).

Just wanted to share my mini personal victory of challenging myself physically and overcoming my fears.

Cheers to you all!

Congratulations! I don't know much at all about GS, but I find it super interesting. I think it's great that you competed, despite being a bit reluctant to do so....it sounds like you did really well! Two firsts? That should ease your competition anxiety a bit!

    Well done! :flowerforyou: :drinker:

That is great! I never thought about competing, but I should look into it.

I'm just seeing this, but congratulations to you for placement and for overcoming your fears! Oddly enough just last week my trainer has urged me to look into competing. I currently move back and forth between a 16kg and 20kg kettlebell. I personally don't feel I'm fit enough yet for competition.

Thank you! I would encourage you to give it a try. Aim for a PR and try to beat your own record with the next competition. That's how I'm looking at it anyway. My area will be having another competition in August/September and I'm looking to beat my current numbers (weight and reps), no matter who else joins the competition.

Cheers and keep up the good work!

That's fantastic! I am impressed when people compete, i think that takes guts.

An aside: a few of us drove to Toronto a month back to observe a kettlebell competition...but we arrived late & they finished hours ahead of when they did last year...and we missed everything except the awards. I mostly wanted to see the folks who went for master of sport, but anything would have been good.
