Hi - I'm hitting it on my first century ride tomorrow a.m. What do I eat for breakfast?? Also - the food plan is to pig out tonight on homemade Saag Paneer and Naan bread as I guess I'm suppose to carb-it-up.

Advice / suggestions are welcome though. Thanks!

Don't eat until you make yourself sick. A little more food, and leaning towards the carbs some is ok, but in general stay with what works for you. Same with breakfast. A full stomach on the morning of the ride will make you feel lousy. Just munch a little at the rest stops to keep your energy levels up and have a good electrolyte drink with you on the bike.

Yup... Don't over-do dinner. Carb loading is actually about shifting the percentage of calories to more carbs, not eating 3 bowls of pasta washed down by a baguette. (Learned the hard way...)

For breakfast, oatmeal is a great choice. Add some butter and/or nuts for good fats, and a little fruit on there. Perfect. (Tip: I prefer the steal-cut, which takes forever to cook. If you have a ride cooker with a timer function, you can have it ready for you when you wake up.)

I eat oatmeal or a brown rice cereal that is similar to cream of wheat for breakfast every day that I ride, and many non-ride days. I usually add flax seed (1-2 tablespoons), raisins (lots of potassium), walnuts, and salt to mine. Sometimes I use brown sugar or maple syrup for a little extra sugar. I like to eat a rather large breakfast a few hours before the event/ride rather than scarfing something down right before I get on my bike. This could mean eating a 500-700+ calorie breakfast depending on the situation. I've seen some advice that says to eat a 1,000 calorie breakfast!!!

Also, have a beer (or two, but not more!) the night before. I seriously find that I ride great when I have 1-2 beers the previous evening.

Thanks everyone for the great suggestions! I'm settling on the oatmeal with cinnamon, almonds and craisins. (It's what I eat most a.m.'s at work) I think I'll add a banana too.

I'll not chow down as much as planned, but will still have the yummy naan and saag paneer. I've gotten addicted to Indian food - if anyone wants the recipe let me know. The beer suggestion by Evachiquita sounds intriguing but one can turn into many for me so I'll save it till after - got a bottle of champagne to celebrate after the ride.

    Nervous & psyched!!

I am neither a beer drinker nor a bath-taker, but nothing is better after a long ride than drinking a beer in the bath!

For me it is a double serving of Kashi Go Lean with a banana about 2 hours before the century and then another 200-300 calorie carb snack about 15 minutes before the ride start.

Try drinking a few Coronas in the Hot Tub. :drinker:

On my long rides I'm all about coffee and two peanut butter/honey sandwiches!
