These seem easy enough to make. Do you know how much protein? Can I use other spices? I have never used corriander.0

This was how I was shown to do them. It was very easy to use coriander. Made them taste nice. But like any recipe we sometimes change them around. Make it what you want, enjoy :bigsmile:0 -
This sounds very similar to a recipe that we make in India - aalu tikki.
I usually use salt and pepper along with some green chillies and sometimes even onions (fried or raw either way) to make the potato patty. The recipe is both tasty and healthy :-)

I make the same recipe, but instead of gram flour I use an egg, because it gives extra protein to the recipe and binds the potatoes just as well. Plus, I use between half to a whole cup of chopped cilantro/coriander, because a teaspoon is almost nothing and does not give any flavor. I sprinkle the patty before serving with a bit of lime/lemon juice or serve it with cucumber raita ( chopped cucumbers and onions in natural yogurt ) to avoid the calories from curry ( which is one of my food pitfalls....lol).
The patties are good hot, at room temp or even cold and keep about five days in the fridge.
Excellent recipe , thanks for posting ! I love indian food.....0 -

I love Indian food and enjoyed learning to cook it while working and living in Kalimpong. Now that I am trying to change some of my lifestyle around and lose weight I wonder if there is maybe a. Indian website with low-calorie Indian food. Can you please stir me in the right direction ?
Thank you....:o).0 -
No idea about low cal Indian foods... most of it tastes too good to be good for the waistline
I try to innovate with the existing ones. Like with the aalu tikki, I add some oil while mashing it so that I do not need much oil later. That makes the mash softer and later while on the pan, you can manage the whole stuff with with very less oil. I made some for dinner today and it took me 4tbsps of oil in total. 3 while mashing and one while frying.
Great to know your love about Indian food - keep up the raita thingy, its very delicious and low on calories. Planning some for lunch tomorrow. :-)
You could also try wheat porridge (we call in Dalia/Dahlia in Hindi) which makes a good meal with all veggies stuffed in and is also a low calorie food.

Oops it should say 1 tablespoon of coriander, but just add what you want for taste. They were spicy too, because of the chilli. It was a recipe from a friend, an Indian lady. I've made no changes to her traditional recipe. They were yummy. All my family loved them and have had the recipe from me. I didn't use oil though like my friend, it was too much.
Thanks for all the advice.0
