Feel sad when you can't run?

Anyone ever get a little depressed when you can't go out and run? Usually nothing stops me from getting out but yesterday the combination of storms, flash floods, and a lot of shopping kept me from doing my usual Sunday long run. I was hoping to hit 5.5 miles yesterday and now I feel like I set myself back a week. Guess I'm really a runner now! I think I'll add a little bit to all my runs this week to make up some of the mileage. I really want to hit 6 miles by the end of the month. The hard part will be when we head out of town this weekend for a wedding and then spend a few days in the Smoky Mountains. Gotta control our eating and gotta keep running!

Yeah. I sat out yesterday because of the rain and because I did so much walking and jogging with the stroller yesterday that I really did need the rest day. Last week was such a havoc though. I'll do my program this week - the hard part is that I carved in a mini-taper for the 10K. And now I'm worried about what breaking in the new shoes will mean for my recovery, even if I'm not wearing them for the race.

On the bright side, Nina finished a tot trot Saturday, so I can brag about her road racing from the age of 3 when she's in college.

To the actual topic: Yes, I get sad. Sometimes it is the weather but most of the time it is my life, appointment after appointment, errands, now end of school year hurry with everything. No time to run and shower. On those days I try to add a small run in the evening just to feel good.

She has been Miss Runner Girl ever since I pushed her through that 5k, so she thought it was tremendous, especially since she did it with her BFF, Bridget.

I run inside on the treadmill at the moment (Physio orders,) so the weather doesn't stop me, I open my French doors and window in the gym and at least I get the elements coming through the room, the wind, rain and sun! However, for the first time since graduating from c25k 10th May I had a period of 3 days last week where I couldn't run (family problem) and not being able to run really played on my mind!! Running is such an important part of my week now it felt like something was missing! Eventually I got time to run again on Saturday, the waiting was worth as it as my run was fab! Who'd have thought it!

ALSO vardaeml It's never too early to start as Nina has proven! Well done for encouraging her!

YES! I ran a mud run about 3 weeks ago. Took a week off due to soreness and weather then got sick. So, here we are 3 weeks later and I'm going through some serious withdraws. I'm hoping to get back to it this week.

Yes! I do feel sad if I can't run. I have a membership at our local Y as my fall back plan, so even exceptionally foul weather or lack of daylight won't stop me. (I'm afraid to run after dark on the roads for various reasons.) Our Y has and indoor track and "Y after dark" hours until midnight. I've run as late as 10PM just so I don't miss fitting it in (but I did not like running so late). I prefer outdoors but the Y indoor track does it in a pinch. The treadmill is not for me.

I admit that stories of injuries that take people out of running even for a while chill me to my core!

The great thing about running is that you can do it anywhere! Enjoy a run or two in the Smokys!
I had a great run along an estuary at sunrise on my last trip to Florida. :-)

Great recommitment! I know I was going nuts after a week of vacation and then a week of illness. The minute I stopped feeling quite so dizzy, I went for a four mile run in the driving rain.

I suppose now that I like to run I feel a little bit sad that I am not able to get a run in (mostly due to rain), but then I feel a lot better after a good indoor cardio/strength workout instead. A good lower body workout helps toward that running ability and speed. Keep up the good work everyone on the 10K training. I graduated last year (2012) from B210K and am now training for the half marathon. Happy Running :)
