Am I crazy for starting the c25k program? I am currently 324. last time i tried jogging at all i was 80 lighter but went from not jogging (biking and walking) to jogging about 1 1/2 miles in under two months.
am i pushing myself to hard. right now the goal is to be able to jog 30 min non stop in the 9 weeks that the program works in. then I'll work on distance...
what do you think?

I don't think you're crazy at all, but I would be careful and not try to overdo it. I was starting to jog just a little bit a couple months ago, around 285 and stopped because I was worried about my knees. I don't have *bad* knees but I do have weak knees if that makes sense. I think I may try it again though (I'm only down to 280..been losing inches but not weight :frown: )
Let me know how you do!!! Maybe we can share our progress! I've always dreamed of running and can't wait to do so without problems!0 -
Thanks, sure we can buddy up0

I've finally made it below 300. My goal is to start C25K at around 250. I wish you luck and look forward to hearing how it's going though.0

I started last night. I may rest again this weekend and start Week 1 *officially* on Monday. I did Day 1, so 60 sec jogging, 90 sec walking for 15 min (after 5 min fast paced walking warm up). It was HARD!!! My legs were so heavy at the end of it, but I DID IT!!!! I'm so proud of myself!
Any tips on preventing knee injury? That's honestly my ONLY concern.0 -
Just make sure you take your rest days so your legs recover...Once you get farther along start doing squats and lunges and other exercises to strengthen the muscles that support and surround the knee.
ETA: Did C25k at 330-350lbs, even if you don't normally run it is an excellent program. Remember you can repeat weeks if you need to. The goal is to learn to running, not to kill yourself.:drinker:0 -
yeah im 324 right now and i am def going to repeat week 2 before doing week 3. I dont think its possible for be to jump up in jogging time just yet.
i love the rush and satisfaction from doing this. looking forward to being able to say i completed this0 -

From what I've heard, the most important part is to go it at your own pace. Stay at a week until it starts to feel easy, then move on. My favorite quote, from a 70+ year old marathoner, is "Run till it's too hard. Walk till it's too easy." I think that mentality can help, even if the program as written takes you longer than the scheduled 9 weeks.0

I've been thinking about starting this program. I've always wanted to say I could run. I remember in high school, back when I weighed about 200 pounds, I could run a mile and a half without stopping, and that was on a path that ended with a small hill you had to run up. Now I can't even remember the last time I ran. I try to use the elliptical 3-5 times a week, but that's not the same thing.
I think I'm going to start this Tuesday. I know a lot of people who think that fat people can't run, and I really want to be able to laugh at them and know that I can. That might not be the healthiest motivation, but proving other people wrong has always been one of my main motivators, and I'll take the motivation where I can find it.0 -
yeah just take your time even if it means repeating week 1 or 2 for several times move at your speed to reduce to risk of injury .
Good luck to you0 -
How's it going?0
