I tend to empty my head riding that's one of the things I love about it, is not thinking about anything in particular. :)

The next fifty feet and that car up ahead and the stupid thing it might do.

Almost always this! City riding lends itself to that. If i'm out on a trail, then I start thinking about the past week, or brainstorming new ideas.

Holy crap I am a stop light magnet.
Does the wind have to blow from every direction I turn into.
When the hell will summer get here, I am freezing and have an ice cream headache

Everything imaginable goes through my mind as ride lots of (What I call noise) mindless meanderings of the mind over nonsense.

But, I certainly think about what I am doing as well: peddle peddle peddle; rhythm, rhythm rhythm; gently thrust the peddle; save some energy for later; on short rides I don't save anything. I just find a good smooth road and pump it.

    On descents:
What a beautiful day it is
Why don't I get out on my bike more often
The blooming vegetation smells so good
Let's see if I can get thru this section without bodily harm
Bummer, I forgot which line to take thru the granite...is it to the right or straight thru
Lucky, i picked the correct line, phew!
I narrowly escaped that technically section...breath
    Look at all the critters
I'm feeling pretty good for not being in bike shape

    On climbs back home:
    I'm starting to sweat
Oh, I can feel it in my legs
I wish I could go faster than the bugs
    My breathing is rather loud
    I hate bugs
Can't wait to get over this hill
Maybe I need to ride more; don't like to feel so out of shape when riding
One of these days I'll make this tight, steep, switch back!
Can't wait to get back and eat, I'm starving
    Almost there

Some of these are a bit tandem-specific but

Is that a bump? Looks like it might be a bump, oh #%# it is a bump and it's too late to call it — spoken "Sorry!"

Can I pass that group of _______s up ahead before that oncoming racer gets to them or do I call out to just hang out until we can pass

    Stoopid wind

    Stoopid hill

Is that the bridge I see coming up? - Mr. Kamarov make turns for thirty knots - ramming speed!

    Call out your shifts, moron

Oh look, a deer - don't come on the trail, don't come on the trail
