Squat for dummies

Is there a squat for dummies page/video that people recommend?

Have gone through a bunch of videos by variety of folks on youtube (including Mark Rippetoe and the Elite fitness folks). But I'm managing to still do it wrong. Ending up with left shoulder pain [weak shoulder to begin with -- old injury], lower back pain, left elbow pain... on different days depending on how i try to do things.

And it seems I don't engage hamstrings/gluts ("posterior chain") and mostly get quads in. Trying the "low bar" + "box squat" variant at the moment-- to try and go down low enough.

Started Stronglifts with the highbar variant some months ago. Moved to the lowbar / box squats version after listening to Mark Rippetoe & the Elite fitness video (and it seemed Eric Helms also says it allows you to lift heavier).

At the time, I started with 45lbs and had only progressed to 60 lb, so everything seemed good.
Things started going south after I hit 90lbs (by which time i was doing low bar squats).

On the plus side, other exercises do not seem as confusing. lol. Not sure why i am squat-challenged.

I've always struggled with back squats (long femurs and short torso makes leverages a bit difficult), but it just takes practice. My suggestion is to back off the weight until you're comfortable with your form. If you can't squat it with good form, you can't squat it.

Watch the So You Think You Can Squat series: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ME8gEN54Ao again. I used to watch those videos weekly until I could remember all of it.

    Don't give up.

ETA: I find that doing goblet squats and front squats have helped a lot also. Definitely also recommend box squats.

Could you post a video so we can have a look at your form. We may be able to pinpoint something that way.
