What are your dinner plans? What was your lunch? And what is your favorite "Cheat" meal?0
-
Dinner: I grilled fish at home for my family, with corn on the cob, tomatoes, and milk. I could do one of those milk commercials bc I drink milk everyday, and I always have.
Lunch: pastrami w/ reduced fat swiss, dijon mustard and pickles on a whole wheat tortilla, and watermelon.
Cheat: Hmmm... Is dessert a meal? Cookies, ice cream, cake & pie. Oh, I did have cake & ice cream for lunch one day this week.
What did you have?0 -
I had grilled Tilapia for dinner tonight with Lemon Pepper seasoning. I am a huge fish lover. Sunday I had Salmon from the Cheescake Factory. It was wonderful.
Today I had Oatmeal and bacon egg croissant for the morning. Later in the day I had a delicious carribean chicken salad for lunch and shakeology for my afternoon meal #4.0 -
I'm just starting again! I had lost 15 the first time and I have almost gained all of it back. Very unmotivational!! I'd love some encouragment as well. Thanks!!

Welcome everyone. All of you wonderful friends start posting your "WHY"s. What is your motivation? How long have you been with MyFitnessPal? Give us an amazing introduction to "YOU".
I will start:
I am Christy, I stumbled upon Myfitnespal a few years ago and love the site; so very helpful. I have always been some type athlete, even an dormant one, while having kids. I have tried many programs and sports. After my 3rd child in 2005, I new I had to get rid of the baby weight and the extra that I had put on over the years. I started working out with a great fitness program and saw incredible results in just a few months. The workouts left me energized, I slept better, and my mood was so much better. I was a happier person inside and out. I didn't DIET, I never DIET, I just knew I had to burn more calories than I consumed. In 2009 I started studying for my CPA exam and I sat all day at work, and sat while studying all evening every day of the week. My exercise was put aside due to time constraints. At first, I watched what I ate but then that fell aside too. A year and a half later, I finished my Exams, had gained all of my weight back and then some, so exercise and clean eating again. Divorce came, single parenting came, changed jobs, you name it, and once again, extra pounds. Cycle again. But, every time I get situated, I realize what my goals are, what changes need to be made, and I go after it. My new husband, married in January is former body builder and is my constant back voice. I love fitness and I love eating clean and how my body reacts to it. I have committed back several months ago, that fitness and planned eating is going to be a part of my everyday life from that point on. My health and my kids depend on it. I want to be an example to my kids. I want them to make good choices about exercise and eating. And I want to reach out and help others feel as good as I do. I love the after high of a great workout. I love the "After" picture from a good workout program after giving it your best for 30, 60, or 90 days. Let's do this together.

My name is Mary. A friend of mine sent me this site a few months ago. At first I didn't do anything with it. I just supported her in her journey. On April 1st I woke up and decided enough was enough. Tired of being overweight, not feeling beautiful, unable to do a lot of physical activities. I gained weight during my pregnancies and living a stressful life of a military spouse. Well, kids are grown and husband is retired from the military. SO, now is my time to focus on me. As I read that last line again I have to resist the urge to feel like I am being selfish. It is a hard habit to break-giving up soda was easier! So far I have lost 18 pounds total, 2 pounds before I started logging on MFP. I logged food for a few days so that I could see how I was sabotaging my eating plan. I love the detail of what you are eating. For me I found out that I didn't eat enough protein. When I fixed that, weight started to come off. Kinda amazing! I'm still learning a lot about how the calorie in vs out works. I have lost this weight only by watching my diet. Can't wait to see what happens as I slowly add exercise! My job requires that I walk 5-6 miles a day. Mostly what I have learned just by logging everyday is that I never ate enough. As an overweight person that is hard to wrap around the brain! Two years ago I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. That has been an interesting ride. My goal is to get in shape so that I can participate in Hero Rush in October. I started using a fit bit one last week. I really love it! Looking forward to this challenge!0

Welcome Mary! So glad you joined us. Yes, you are over due to take care of "YOU". Can you believe that exercising for one hour is only 4% of your day? That don't seem like much. If I don't workout, I feel so guilty watching an hour of the VOICE on tv. (That's the only show I watch during he week). Usually I workout while watching tv, unless Hubby is home. You actually get quite a bit of walking in. Do you do all that walking at the same time or is it spread out slowly over your day? Is your heart rate up for long periods of time? Glad you joined us.

Hey. I'm Liz. I've been a dancer for most of my life. Ballet, belly dancing, "exotic," club, house, you name it... My mother tells me I used to dance to the rhythm of the washing machine before I could even walk. So, I've always been pretty fit.
Then in 2006, I started getting sick and putting on weight. I gained up to 150 lbs, and then determinedly dieted back down to 132. Only to start gaining again even on reduced calories. Other things went horribly wrong. Eventually my period stopped and my gynecologist called it. Hypothyroidism. So I got meds and it took a couple years to figure out the correct dose to help me lose weight again. In 2009, I got pregnant, and due to complications with the pregnancy, ended up pretty immobile. I went up to 209 lbs, between the lack of mobility and the thyroid problem (which was again hard to manage because of all the extra hormones.) I had my baby and dropped to 178, where I stayed like GLUE for 2 years, no matter what I did. Then, in September, something clicked (or so I thought) and I dropped 23 lbs, effortlessly. I was down to 154! But that stopped in December and I started feeling sick again. Memory loss, weird pain, skin changes, cluttered thinking, depression, messed up balance, being cold all the time. I worked out harder, because workouts usually help my depression. I went to a shrink for the first time EVER because I couldn't beat it, and insomnia and exhaustion were catching up with me. The shrink put me on meds for ADD, which I have never had. Then my period stopped AGAIN. I got my RMR checked, it was at 670. (Beat out by a coma patient at 1252 for my height and weight. No wonder I was COLD.) They tested me THREE TIMES. 670 all three times.
I went to a regular doc to get a full metabolic panel and a couple other tests done. I had deficient iron, potassium, and my B12 was so low, it was causing anemia and neuropathy. SO. I am on loading dose shots of B12. 2 weeks into treatment, I've dropped 4 lbs. Hopefully it's not a fluke and getting treated for food malabsorbtion will do the trick.
I've been lifting heavy 3 days per week for the last 3 months (NROL) and I walk about 5 miles a day. I have been eating at maintenance calories for the last couple months while I tried to figure out why I was sick. Now I'm ready to eat at deficit again and I hope that I am finally healthy enough to get my body back again! I'd like to get back down to 18% body fat. I'm currently sitting at about 26%.
I'm kind of a foodie, and I tend to avoid processed foods in favor of making everything from scratch, when I have the energy. Tonight I'm brining a Canadian bacon. I'll be smoking that on Friday evening for a party on Saturday. I'm also kind of obsessed with cheese. Last year I produced about 100 lbs of gourmet cheese in my own kitchen. Whoo!
Anyway... so... That's me...0 -
Hello!
I joined MFP about 15 months ago. I started with MFP's calorie suggestion and eating back half or more of my exercise calories. It went really well for the first 11 months or so. I am not dieting....I just changed up the things I like to make them a little healthier and when I really want something no matter what it is, I eat it. I may exercise a little more and I may not, but I don't deprive myself. The only reason this works for me is that nothing is off limits. I workout 5 days a week and just started lifting a few months ago. I am using a workout routine that I found online and I can feel that I am getting stronger, but not sure I am getting the results that I want. I bought NROLFW and really need to get started on that. I have lost around 65 pounds total, but only 10 of that since November. Yes, it is frustrating, but I haven't given up. I am at the lowest weight I have been for at least 20 years. I am not gaining, I am just losing at a glacial pace! LOL! And again since I am not depriving myself when I want something, I am ok with it.
I have done 5 Half Marathons and countless other races in my life. I haven't gotten to the point where I can run any of them non-stop, but that is a goal. My last 5k (two weeks ago), I ran and walked it and finished under a 12 minute mile or 5 mph pace! A new best for me! This year, I am doing an official race of some distance every month. So far this year I have done 3 5ks, a 4 miler, a 10k and a Warrior Dash. Each 5k was faster than the one before and each of the others was a PR for that distance. I have Half Marathons planned for December and next February and lots of other races in between. I'm not fast, but I'm getting better.
Here are a couple of pictures, I had only lost about 50 pounds at that time.
I still have 25 pounds to go to get to the healthy range for my height. I'll do it. This is the longest amount of time I have gone with losing and not gaining back and I credit it all to the fact that I don't deprive myself when I want something.
My profile pic is from my Warrior Dash! I've already signed up to do that one again.0 -
Wow Lisah! You are a warrior and a great inspiration. Running is a weak spot for me. I would love to be a great runner, but not ready for that challenge just yet. I am more of a jogger. Glad to see you have so much ambition too.

Wow! Sounds like you have been through a lot, but you have finally turned a corner, hopefully for the better. I am glad you have joined us. You are certainly in the right place. How is the heavy lifting working for ya?

I enjoy it, because it is an efficient form of exercise. I don't have to grind for hours and hours on a treadmill for a decent calorie burn, and it requires a certain mental focus, wherein I can't even have the distraction of head phones. I like that level of meditative time, I guess, because I don't get bored.
Even though I haven't been able to lose any weight these last few months, I've seen significant strength gains, which keeps me going, even when I'm feeling depressed about my progress in other areas. People swear I look different now too, even though none of my measurements have changed. I suspect that all the heavy lifts have improved my posture. Plus, through all this crap that my body's been through, I haven't LOST any muscle, so that's been good. If I'd been in worse shape when this anemia hit, I think I would have been a lot worse off.
I'm looking forward to shedding the extra pounds on me with relative ease (I hope?!) because I already have good habits and calorie hungry muscle mass in place, now that I can drop my calories without becoming malnourished. I've been eating at a caloric deficit all week this week, for the first time in months, and I haven't really been hungry, so that's a win!0 -
My walking is through out the day. I stand or walk on concrete for 8 hrs a day. Rough on the feet and back. I have a very low heart rate and it is difficult to raise up. I have discussed this with my doctor. Just not going to worry about it right now. I am healthy for the most part. No issues with sugar, cholesterol or high blood pressure. My sodium is actually too low. But I am getting older and those things could change. I am starting the c25k program this weekend. My cousin did this program and loved it. I would really love to try a 5k this summer. Best of luck to everyone in the group, may we all reach our goals, find the support we need and make new friends along the way0

Have you tried any of the running games/apps? I have Zombies, RUN! and I ADORE it. I've ended up walking about 5 miles a day, EVERY DAY because I am on tenter hooks and want to find out what happens in the next installment. It's like TV that I only get to watch when I'm being active... I love it!0 -

All that muscle is soon going to be burning off tons of inches, even while sleeping.0 -
Rebecca:
Welcome to our group. You have your hands full. 14lbs is an incredible start. Have you used any fitness program yet, or just watching calories? You indicated that the fitness hasn't happened yet. You have taken an important step in getting your eating/calories, etc. under control first.

Inches off and inches back on. For a while at 154, my jeans were loose enough that I could pull them off without unbuttoning. Now, at 150, they're feeling tight again... I was wearing these pants at 176...
Now it hurts to have my wallet in my pocket. My butt is the same measurement, but it's now SOLID. I have a squat bootie. I might have to get bigger pants.0 -

Im 164.6lbs not sure of measurments as theres never a tape when you need one. My challenge is to try and do 20mins of cardio a day. I have just bought an exercise bike and have managed my 20mins im am also trying to beat my calories burnt on it each day. What sort of goals or challenges should I be setting myself any recomendations. Thanks0

I am not an expert in any way, but speaking from experience, I think your goals are more personal. For me, I want to lose weight, get toned, and be lean. I want to be healthy and have more energy. I don't want diabetes, high blood pressure, or breathing problems. So, I want to lose up to 2 lbs. a week, do 6 workouts a week that last 45-60 minutes, due to weight loss goal and I want to eat clean, healthy, natural foods to make me feel better inside and out, and by eating clean and working out consistently, this will also give me more energy. I want to be happy with myself, keep up my motivation, help and encourage others that have the same or similar goals.
As far as goals, some want to maintain or just keep their heart healthy, so they would do around 20 min. a day and eat healthy.
Some may want to increase muscle mass, get lean, or bulk up. That would be my husbands topic. I have no experience with that. LOL.
I don't know if this helped, but just by thinking about your goals, writing them down, and looking at them often, that helps us stay on track and work towards our target.
Any one else?0 -
Hey everyone:) I just joined this group this morning. I've been sick the last couple of days otherwise I would have begun the challenge on the 1st. I joined MFP a while ago when my weight had reached 180. Since then I had a low of 155 after strict special K diet and lots of exercise. Then stress and a new job took over and I gained it all back plus some more. My current weight is 196 now, and I'm not the best at eating healthy. I'm really excited about turbo fire, and have finished the first 4 weeks. This week I will try to focus on better meal choices and reasonable portions. Good Luck everyone!0
