Need breakfast help

Hi, I just joined two days ago and am slowly feeling my way around this website and need help.
For over 40 years I have during the week pretty much breakfasted on two slices of dark pumpernickel type bread, very thinly spread with butter and hone made jam. I always thought it was fairly healthy to now find out that it is much too much sugar. This and an orange are 400 calories. The calories don't bother me, because so far I have always be under what I should eat.
I live in Mexico, so pretty much everything must be from scratch, because we do not have the same brand name things.....and mostly we don't have any at all. I would prefer not to eat cereal, or drink smothies and also not buy my breakfast away from home. I have no thyrois and active systemic Lupus and try to avoid anything chemical, additives; in general everything from a box or packet I eat everything and have no digestive problems or allergies. Could someone please help me with some basic suggestions ? I am really stuck. I also don't mind to eat un-typical food for breakfast.
Also, is there a recipe section ? And if there is, how can I access it ? Thank you......Droelma
PS: I am an early riser and telecommute, which means I have time to prepare breakfast......

    If you go to the Community Tab and scroll down there is a recipe thread you can access. I'm not much help because I eat the same cereal every morning to get my iron. Honey bunch of Oats peach blend.

    Coincidentally, I was just thinking about how much I enjoyed my breakfast this morning. I had a boiled egg, sliced kiwi, a slice of havarti cheese and black coffee. The tastes go together so well. I also do a lot of oatmeal (stoneground when I have it), along with cooked apples or berries. I add spenda and that's it. When I cook for family, I sometimes have 2 slices of bacon and one fried egg. Just a few ideas ...

    I know you said you prefer to not have a smoothy but I am hooked on having one for breakfast. I put 1 cup of berries (strawberries blueberries or raspberries) 1 scoop of protein powder, 1 cup unsweetened almond milk, 1 Tbs. flax and 1 Tbs chia seed and ice. It
    is delicious and it fills me up until noon time and is around 300 to 350 calories. I also make a pumpkin smoothy which I put canned pumpkin in place of the berries and add some pumpkin pie seasoning and cinnamon. Before I got into having the smoothies (which was recommended to me by a nutritionist) I always had a bowl of steel cut oats, blueberries, almonds and milk which I also liked too. My husband still has the oatmeal for breakfast every morning,

    I don't eat meat or dairy.-
    Here in Canada we have a non-dairy cheese which I just love. Come in blocks, shredded etc.

    Anyway, My favourite breakfast is a baked potato with melted cheese on it. Obviously I use non-dairy cheese, but you could use regular. Yummy.

    This morning I had an egg (4) white omelette with sliced sweet pepper, onions, spinach and mushrooms with herbs it was really delicious and held me easily until noon.

    I still work full time and I found a really great way to prepare breakfast for an on-the-go morning:

    • Eggbeaters or liquid egg whites (or a whole egg)
    • A muffin tin
    • Chopped cooked peppers (or vegetable of choice – or nothing)
    • No stick spray
    • English muffins (I use Thomas’ multigrain light)

    Spray muffin tin with cooking spray
    Pour ¼ cup of liquid egg whites or eggbeaters (or one whole egg) into each section
    Add vegetable of choice or leave plain

    Bake in a 350ᵒ oven for 20 min.

    Remove from muffin tin and place between a toasted English muffin. Season to taste. Add some cheese if desired.

    Wrap each sandwich in foil and refrigerate or freeze.

    Pop into toaster oven or oven for a few minutes to warm up. Or remove from foil and zap it in the microwave for 20 seconds or so.

    If frozen, I pop one into my toaster oven for 20 min at 350ᵒ while getting dressed for work. Grab the sandwich and run out the door. :smile:

    I make egg sandwiches a lot. Mine are plain but so many things could be added. I use 1 egg & 1 slice of bread. Cook the egg using only no-fat spray. Easy, good and takes care of me for the morning.

    My favorite breakfast is an egg with lots of sautéed vegetables. I sauté peppers, mushrooms, onions, zucchini, spinach (or what ever else is on hand) in a little olive oil and then scramble an egg and pour it on top and cook it like an omelet. I often also have some blueberries with nonfat plain Greek yogurt sprinkled with cinnamon.

    I thought I'd check back in to tell you how things have been going after almost 50 days.
    I decided to go with the egg option, because I do not like anything sweet and also prefer not to drink my meals.
    Since breakfast is the only meal I can really control in terms of time, I now get up a little earlier and prepare two eggs. Sometimes scrambled, sometimes an omelet or what we call " huevos a la mexicana ", which are eggs with veggies. I eat those with three small corn tortillas and two cups of coffee.
    Lunch here in Mexico is from 2-4:30 pm and the rather big breakfast helps me to manage until lunch time. Occasionally I eat a small orange between the two meals. I don't otherwise snack. I am from a non-snacking culture and never felt I needed it.
    So far so good. In a month and a couple of days I lost 5.5 kilos ( just over 12 pounds ) and feel good.

    I am a bit surprised with myself, because I managed to cut out bread from my diet, except for one sandwich a week ( supposedly to throw off my metbolism ) have logged every day and each day stayed under my allowed calories.

    Nice job Ang108! I usually make an omelette with 1 whole egg and 2 egg whites with some vegetables, whatever I have available. My favorite is 1 whole egg and 2 egg whites scrambled plain and then I pour some spicy salsa over it. Luv it.

    the smoothies sound good. the berries you mentioned are lower in sugar than a lot of fruits. the protein adds , for me , "fullness factor". I love the pumpkin snoothies in the fall. they taste like pumpkin pie filling. I add 1/4 c pumpkin and spices to a vanilla shake.
    My usual breakfast is Champion Pure Whey Stack in my morning coffee. Tastes like a caffe-mocha. occasionally for Potassium, I'll add 1/2 banana on the side.

    I toast 2 pieces sprouted wheat bread (120 cal for 2) and spread 2 tablespoons of blended 1% cottage cheese on top of each piece of toast. I then sprinkle with a mixture of cinnamon and equal. Yum. Total calories equal 206,this includes 6 calories for the tsp of cinnamon. I also have my coffee with skim milk and sometimes add a fruit.

    I'm seeing an MD who is a weight loss specialist. He has me eat a 4 egg white omelet with 4 slices of Canadian bacon. I can add any vegetables I wish. It is very filling and satisfying.
