Hello girls and guys....
I came to MFP per my Endocronologist instructions to lose weight and get my diabetes under control. Today is my 3rd day following her 1100 cal per day diet with no bread, pasta, rice, potatoes. most meats and all the good stuff. lol...and yes it is very hard to follow. I stay hungry. I am limited to chair exercises. I hope to find a friend in my same situation that will be able to motivate me and me motivate them. If anyone wants to "friend" me, feel free. Thanks for listening.

I hope you are doing well so far. I wonder if you upped the fat in your diet if that wouldn't help a bit with your hunger problems.
For instance use a bit of olive oil to cook in or maybe use a bit of butter on your vegetables. I find if I up my fat intake I'm don't get as hungry during the day.0 -
Hi Raven!
The first few days are the hardest, since your body is getting the last of the carb cravings out.
I've been eating low carb since mid to end of February. The first week I had awful headaches and sipped on boullion broth to help.
After the first three to four days, I wasn't craving the carbs (bread, pasta, etc) anymore and it got easier. I have several "replacement" recipes for things like pancakes and bread (made with nut flours instead of wheat/grains), and noodles made from sliced or julienned zucchini that may work well within your diet. Feel free to message me for the recipes that interest you.
I agree with Math that additional fat in your diet may help make you feel full longer. I use coconut butter, bacon fat, olive oil, and other fats to cook meats, sauté veggies, etc in. It really helps a lot.0 -
I have been eating sunflower seeds but think the canola oil that is in them is what is making me so nauseated every night or early morning. It passes but today leaving the seeds alone and see if that was the cause. Endocronologist gave me a month;s sample of Beretta to take shots in my tummy for the hunger but side effect of that is cancer in mice... so afraid to start those shots. Besides they cause nausea and I have enough of that already.. thanks for your tip.0

Raven - I've been a carb overloader my whole life! I never thought I could go without bread with dinner or my buns for my meat or my sandwiches at lunch . . . but a few years ago I went on a low-carb eating regimen and after the first week (which was VERY difficult) I honestly didn't miss it. I even ordered a "protein style" cheeseburger at IN n OUT where the burger is wrapped in lettuce leaves and I didn't miss it. Well, needlessly to say, I lost weight, but gained it back and then some. Now I'm doing it again. So, I am back to the low-carb thing, because that is what works for me. This time, I realize it is a life-time eating habit change I have to make. Will I never cave? No, I will, but I know I have to get back on track right after.
I know you think you are never going to get used to it, but YOU WILL! I promise you! Just take one day at a time. One meal at a time. If you have to have something crunch, try RyeCrisp crackers. Or there are some pretty good low-carb recipes on line - I tried one that's called "Cloud Bread" and it's made out of egg whites - it wasn't bad, had a similar consistency.
Just allow your body some time to get thru the carb cravings and then you will be amazed at how good you feel, how much energy you have, and how much weight you will lose. It's a bit more work, prepping the food, etc. but well worth it. Let me know if you need anything - you have my email address. Keep me posted. And you CAN DO THIS!

Sherry, I am not in your situation but I would have been had I not had the good fortune to have learned two years ago that I was becoming insulin resistant and was told by my doctor (an endo) to go on a low carb diet. It was very difficult and frustrating at first, trying to figure out what to eat after so many years eating a high-carb diet. But my husband (the cook in the family) and I, who are now both eating low-carb, have figured it out, and I track every gram with MFP. There is almost nothing for which there is not a yummy low-carb substitute. We eat pasta, bread, cookies, cake, etc., all of which is low carb. We make a lot more food from scratch now so that we can eat what we want, and a lot of ingredients are available only online, but I gladly trade convenience for good health. Eating low carb allowed me to drop my excess weight and my numbers now show no sign of insulin resistance. If I can offer help, I'm happy to help, but YOU are the one who has to commit to this WOE (Way of Eating). It's not a diet, it's for life. Are you up for it, is the question?0
