We've been talking about getting married for a long time and have discussed dates. He finally gave me my ring on Sunday and we booked the venue on Monday morning. We have both been maried before and we both have adult children. I wanted my mother's engagement ring if I ever married again and he knew that. He picked it up at Christmas and it was a nightmare to get it resized without losing the engraving inside but we got it done.
Here are the things I have heard since monday morning:
You're not planning to wear white, are you?
--When I said yes, she wrinkled her nose, turned on her heel, and walked away. (And I ate a small bag of Doritos.)
Well that's a cute little ring.
--Yes it is but it was considered quite large when it was purchased in 1967. (And I had fries with lunch.)
You got engaged with somebody with somebody else's ring???
--No. I got engaged with a sentimental family heirloom. (ice cream cone)
People's rudeness is making me fatter!

Ugh. Why can't people keep their opinions to themselves? I know the feeling. I reconnected with an old flame shortly after I got divorced. We started dating and got engaged about six months later. Now I'm constantly getting the "isn't it kinda soon?" "don't you want to wait?". No it isn't soon I've known him since I was 16 and no I don't want to wait. He's exactly the man I wanted for the last 8 years.
So anyway forget what people think. I think it's really cool that you're using a ring with sentimental value and you have every right to wear white. It's your wedding.0 -
I feel for you on this. It's really aggravating how some people have no filter and just can't keep some things to themselves. We almost decided to elope because of comments like this and everyone's 2 cents. Good luck and try to ignore the comments as best as you can.0

Congrats on your engagement. I am sorry that people are being so rude.
I am also engaged (this will be my second wedding) and I have two kids. People seem to think it isn't that big of a deal since it isn't "traditional" and I have also been asked if I am going to wear white. 0 -
Forget what anyone else thinks. I think it is wonderful that you got that ring. I would totally want the same if I had a family heirloom like that.
